You underestimate how much is out there. Check neogaf, there's screenshots galore.

I recommend everyone wait as long as possible before getting the new dash.

no but what you read is a snapshot of people trying to make their point. they're ranting on what bothers them and not detailing the huge improvements.

What new improvements? The browser I'll never use?

The only thing that seems like an improvement is the pinning, and its not the way anyone really wants it. That alone isn't useful enough that I'm happy with the tradeoff.

It's probably more functional overall than NXE, but the blades were way better.

if, out of all that plethora of material YOU READ about, you couldn't even get how much faster the new dash is, there's not much I can say... it's end of story as I won't discuss the features. if a bunch of kids flaunt all social rules and the NDA they signed, that's their choice. we're adults who abide by terms and agreements.
I for one preferred NXE over any dashboard build we've been given tbh.
Back then the 360 could handle 1080p video files properly. frown.gif

I want a second page that I can browse new games. That's it. Clean and simple. I could do that on windows, and it's about as straightforward as it gets on PS3.
The only reason I can't do that on 360 cause they can't stop pushing sh*t I don't want onto me, and I have zero say about it. Every new dash it gets more and more difficult to access my games and other gaming related stuff. I turn on my dash and 75% of the screen is an ad for breaking bad, Ive even see a damn liquor ad! Thats just a straight up commercial. Games are like 5 pages over.
It's ridiculous and out of control. Each dash is worse than the last. In a year or two, every time you turn on your box you're going to be forced to watch a trailer before you can do anything, like blu-rays.

Outside of the persistent ads box on many of the specific areas I'm not sure where you're getting that the PS3 XMB is any better than the 360 dash. The Dash gives you the option to immediately play the game in the disc drive or do a quick play right underneath it in the very first section, no traversing needed. If you want to go more in-depth to your library 3 right bumper presses gets you there . The XMB starts you on the store tab, gee I wonder what they're trying to get at. You have to navigate two columns over to the left before you can even start a game. Wanna do a quick play? Nah, just wade through the useless PS3 game folder and try to separate out the actual games you own from the demos you might have downloaded. Why Sony hasn't updated to separate out demos from actual games is beyond me. The new Metro dash is no worse than than the old blades either. In fact it's very similar in a lot of ways. Besides if you're really gonna complain just hit the guide button to bring back the old blades. I know some people who immediately do that and hardly ever use the actual dash if they're just playing a game and not wanting to mess with the other stuff. Funny, it's almost like MS knew that...

Well, the PS3 XMB certainly has some odd choices, its not especially configurable either, and their store is truly, impressively awful....the only thing under games, is my games. And it's free.....that counts for a lot. If ads are what it takes to make XBL free, I'm all for it.

I never really had an issue with performance on any of the dashes though. Ive heard stories of it taking minutes to load up a game library or show the home page, but Ive never seen anything even remotely like that, and I have like 100 games. The only dash that had poor performance to me was the first NXE.

I don't have the new dash, I'm just going by the billion other people who've posted shots and made comments of it online.

pinning is nice but only needed because the dashboard has so much crap on it that it's needed

it's definitely faster. they cache everything now. quit out of a game and when you hit the dash, everything is populated again. no more waiting over a minute for your games list or apps list to repopulate.

even scrolling across tabs is faster.

alright, I'm done. you guys aren't even describing the dash correctly.

He is correct. You can notice the difference in speed.

still almost 2 minutes from boot up to being able to click on menus and have them work, not improved when I exit a game and want to use the dashboard again, running wired internet

Did you try clearing your cache? That is absolutely not normal.

when I quit out of a game, I can instantly see all my games again. no more minute+ wait. same for an app like ESPN. I see all my video apps instantly when I quit out.

I agree. I never had that issue. Something must be up with your system.
cleared my cache after I updated to beta dash and it's a newer 250gb S so it's not that the system is old

So you turn on your system, and it literally, no exaggeration, takes over 2 minutes before the dash is displayed? Does it just show the swirls the whole time or something, or is the dash visible, but non responsive?

your system's behavior is not normal, red worm.

even in the current public dash (non-beta), your dash should come up quickly even though a lot has not loaded in yet. you should at least be able to move across the various tabs even if some info hasn't scanned in yet like your apps and games. that first boot takes awhile to fully finish. when you quit out of an app or a game, your system will rescan what you have so it's almost like a cold boot. I doubt your system's behavior matches anyone else's on any version of the dashboard.

I'd have your hard drive checked out. something is up.

Yeah it seems both companies have made some rather odd choices about the layout of their GUIs. I would prefer the games tab to be next to the home tab instead of all the multimedia tabs but eh it's not really that big a deal and I can understand why they're doing it. Seems these days the actual task of playing a game takes a back seat to everything else.
seems to be working a bit better the more I've used it, only about 30-45 sec from bootup to full function which still in my opinion is piss poor, I don't remember older dashboards taking this long to load up

Yeah. I mean, I should at least be able to rearrange the tabs. I know they really, really want me to buy their TV shows, but its getting to the point where it's counterproductive, because they're making it more difficult for me to access the stuff I actually want to pay for.

That's still not normal though....do you have like 300 games or something? I can't imagine what is causing that delay.
