On cinema mode the blacks and brightness are caped. Really black level will be 0.01 for other modes (THX, Standard) on EU 2012 Series. 2013 tv's definetely increase Brighteness.

Basically, the EU numbers don't mean much to me. We're all waiting for the US versions to show up and be measured.

Makes sense

If the VT60 is coming in 2 or 3 weeks, then shouldn't we know something about the 2013 Panny 3D glasses yet? Figured they would be on the market or that at least we'd have some hard compatibility facts for 2012/13.

None of the 2013 3D TVs have been released yet so why would they release the new 2013 glasses before the 2013 3D TVs are even available?

We already know the new 2013 glasses will be compatible with the 2012 TVs since they use the same technology - that was established months ago.

They use the new standard that was established last year and will be compatible, as Randy stated above.

Well, the 2013 Sammy glasses are out, so I thought the Panny's might also.

From that chart it looks like the Brits were getting a better ST50 than the US (better even than the ST60), or is it just the result of different TV broadcast standards and Euro markets? Regardless, I would love to see a similar chart comparing the VT50 to the VT60 USA models.

I would really just ignore all those measurements. They imply that the ST50 had the best black level of all (wrong), had the VT50 with a much worse black level (wrong) and may be victimized by some peak brightness limitation on the VT50 that was unique to the EU (meaningless).

FWIW I saw a couple 50" ST60s at my store today....can't wait to see it
post #1272 of 1446
Cool! I hope CP get their ST60's soon too!

Saw the VT50 for the first time today and it does look sleeker than my 65vt30. I am really pumped to see the ZT60 and hope it can match my 5020 Kuro.

LG is buying back my 60" PZ750 after a 7 month ordeal. This morning, I pre-ordered the 60" ST60 from Panasonic's EPP site. Can't wait!

The VT50 , the price sure has dropped. I will wait out the ZT60 until next spring when the price comes down.

No, you didn't read that. They just moved R&D to a different location. There will be plasma for next year.

What i do instead of waiting is I buy a new plasma every year and sell my old model... Its not hard to sell it to your neighbor or friends when they are so used to the crappy picture quality on lcds. It works out because the person I sell it to gets a great picture and I get the marginal improvements of the yearly updates

Forgive me if it's been said before but looking over Panasonics website it looks as if they are shifting there lineup a bit. Used to be U, UT, S, ST, GT and VT, now it looks like they are consolidating the lineup a bit by offering just S, ST and VT. And the ST gets the the better panel similar to the VT series whereas before the ST line was much closer to the UT line.

...and ZT

But apparently the VT will have the one-sheet-of-glass panel. I'm sure the ST won't get that.

In fact, now that I think about it, the VT60 seems to have everything the ZT60 has (one-sheet-glass; extended color palette; 3,000 FF drive; etc.). The ZT60 has a so-called "Master Black Panel" FWIW, but otherwise it sounds like a more pricey VT60 to me, though perhaps with more handbuilt quality. The VT60 also has a built-in camera.

Yes, they dropped the UT and GT series for 2013, but added ZT series so there is one less model than there was in 2012.

X60 replaces X5

S60 replaces U50

ST60 replaces ST50

VT60 replaces VT50

ZT60 all new of course.

It's actually one-sheet-of-glass design, where the outer sheet of glass extends to the edges like on the new ZT60 and previous VT models. All models have two sheets of glass (an outer layer of in front of the plasma panel's glass face) with an air gap between them, except for the ZT60 where the outer glass is bonded directly to the plasma panel's glass face (a first for Panasonic).

They really should change that misleading "One-Sheet-of-Glass" terminology to something more descriptive like "Edge-to-Edge Glass" or "Infinity Glass" etc.

I don't think there will be any vertical banding on the ZT panels like last gen VT50's. Perhaps that will be the (main) upgrade if talking equal sizes with last year's because of the new panel. That and the new red phosphor, but not actually sure what it's for tbh.

Will the ZT and VT be sharing the same processing does anyone know ?
