Placing cloth on the floor

My carpet is in good condition but bright. I am thinking to cover with black cloth to reduce light reflection. While doing it, I am thinking to put 6oz polyester batting below the cloth to absorb sound.

Does it makes sense? Did anybody consider this? Appreciate to share pros & cons. This not high traffic room, mostly people don't even go near the screen.

A nice dark throw rug would be better than fabric I'd think

Thanks for quick reply. It is difficult to get rug of exact size to fit in the room . I am planning to cover half of the room at least. (Room is 21x16) and it is expensive to buy such a large rug. If it is cloth I can get for $7 or less per yard and $ 2 to 4 /yard for polyester batting. I can make perfect dark room and don't know acoustically how good it is.

Looking for ideas.

My carpet is in excellent condition but it is too light color. I want to fix to make it dark and any small improvement acoustically with less cost as possible. I am thinking to put some absorption like polyester batting etc and put black cloth over the carpet. I don't need to walk in the room since it is only for home theater. I have seating at 18 feet from screen and door at seating only. I want to cover at least for around 10 feet from the screen.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Anybody did area rugs that can absorb as much sound to reduce reflections? Looking for suggestions on creating my own area rug with black cloth and something to fill.

I wouldn't worry about increasing the absorption of your flooring. The carpet is sucking up most of the high frequencies hitting it already and you are not going to make any significant difference with a thin layer of cloth and fiber fill. Adding strategically located absorping panels on the wall is your best bet. (See the Sound Treatment thread on this Forum for all the information you ever wanted to know.
My room has light colored laminate. A 6X9 black area rug right in front of the screen gave most of the darkness I was looking for. Your room of course is way bigger than mine.
