Speaker Placement Advice Needed

We are building a new home and I photoshopped in the TV we want to buy along with the speakers I bought for the home (Mythos 10's). I am blending audio quality with WAF so I'm fighting to keep it as "Hi-fi" as possible without ruining her "look".

So I've been cursed with having to place the TV over the fireplace...I know I know. Initially I was looking into a typical LCR arrangement around the TV but I was concerned being vertically off axis from what is essentially a MTM speaker. I tried to find ways to tilt the speakers down but that is an exercise in frustration. I drew up the following concepts to show my wife and she's decidedly mixed in opinion.

What do you guys think of the problem with off axis (vertical) listening and what do you think of the other potential options. Note that the last option has the speakers to the outside of each window near the corner of the room.

You can see the floor plan here:

Of the three images, I'd go with number two. Stating the obvious, don't forget to add a subwoofer or two.

My wife added a second F to the WAF acronym to mean: Wife Approval Factor.....Frown. tongue.gif

We came to an agreement this morning, I won't ask her opinion and she knows I'm doing the best I can with both our interests in mind.

Good luck with both your wife and setting up your new home.

Haha I like the extra F...so true I need to remember that!

Don't worry about the sub. I convinced her that I could "hide" a SVS SB13 Ultra (or whatever it will be called) under a end table smile.gif.

We did that in our last place. It's a two-fer. A place to place a drink or food plate, while hiding an obtrusive subwoofer. In our case, the problem was finding a table high enough that the legs could touch the carpeted floor that also passed the WAF approval test without getting an "F". tongue.gif

For a SVS SB13 Ultra, at 22.5" tall, that could be very hard as that thing's a monster.

A bit higher on the WAF chart would be a cordless HSU, ULS 15 subwoofer in rosenut veneer. It's an 18" high cube. No holes to drill in the floor to run wires and it comes in a beautiful rosenut cabinet veneer. High WAF.

Cross your fingers but with a cursory glance it appears there are quite a few that have a 17" tall opening....I hope.

EDIT: You grabbed the PB13 instead of the SB13. The SB13 is being re-released soon. Here is the previous version:

Thanks for the edit. At 17.9", that looks a lot more doable. biggrin.gif
