I don't think "Gimme Shelter" has been given enough playtime in association with film. rolleyes.gif

Please for the love of god no more films with trains or planes. There's nothing exciting or remotely interesting with the Man vs mode of transportation theme...Zzzzzz

I prefer more of post-apocalyptic Book of Eli or action espionage like Safe house/Training day that makes Denzel shine.

He's maintained his looks, but he has aged. Compare a recent film to one from 20 years ago - you'll see a difference. Still, he's gracefully allowed himself to mature into older roles, or even what I would call a supporting role in Safe House.

After doing a little reading it doesn't sound like it's a "man vs mode of transportation" film. Of course, it very well might be but doesn't sound that way. I have always been a big Denzel fan and really want him to pull out a big Training Day or Malcolm X performance. There's also a decent supporting cast in this one with Don Cheadle and John Goodman, who I personally think is a very underrated actor. I'll likely go see this for the fact that my girlfriend alone will want to see it because of Denzel. Something about this guy that the ladies love.

After seeing a long trailer, I get the impression that the plane crash is just a set up for the main drama after, where Denzel's character has to deal with the fame, loss of common sense, alienation from family, etc.

Im not so sure I agree. I thought 'Unstoppable' was very entertaining.

That said, Denzel in Training Day was fantastic. (Also enjoyed Safe House much more than I thought I would)

Dont know if there is another actor alive right now with Denzel's screen presence.

Actors are also faced with the challenge of good scripts. Not only that but there is also the factor of a particular actor wanting to grow and try new things that simply may not be available. And finally, if an actor doesn't stay in some kind of view they tend to get forgotten about. This is especially true for women actors, which is why you see a lot of them taking what appears to be any role they can before they're 40 years old.

Wow! The first act of this film which includes the aircraft mishap is truly 'edge-of-your-seat' stuff. On a 120" screen with the surround sound cranked up you really feel like you're in the airplane and cockpit. Emotionally exhausting.

I didn't think anyone would come close to matching Daniel Day-Lewis' performance in Lincoln but Denzel Washington is close behind. His portrayal of an alcohol and drug addicted pilot who is also courageous when needed was a treat to watch. That said, I don't think this is a blind buy unless you're a hard-core Denzel fan. The second and third acts are character/dialog driven and are powerful stuff but many may find one viewing of this film is enough. But it's a recommended watch.

I rented this film from Redbox and my copy froze in a three different spots which I eventually cleared by using my fast forward and play buttons on my remote. It could have been a bad disc but I'm also aware that there is a new copy-guard on this movie.

...and the ridiculous assumption that a woman past 40 is old and not "hot movie star" material anymore. Lately though, it seems to have changed a bit. Maybe because those actresses know how to stay in shape too I don't know wink.gif ...It's not rare to see a young actress play a part that is in fact not really for her because she's simply too young to be that character (and the same goes for men as well). Thanks for the recommendation (and the copy-guard thingy warning). I'm a Denzel fan so... I guess I'll go for a blind buy. I'm not expecting an action movie anyway.

I enjoyed this film very much despite the fact that as usual, they gave away a huge plot point in the trailer. Plus, having read an article written by a mechanical engineer who builds airplanes about that plot point, physically to do that with a plane is impossible.

Ya, and this was just a movie. The home of impossible actions.

On the TOP GUN tip, my uncle, a 25 yr USAF vet used to say how stupid that movie was. Any pilot that "buzzed the tower" like that would have been tossed from the program....not to mention the actions in that film that would have potentially triggered WWIII during the Cold War. That said, he was certainly entertained by it.

That crash had no survivors.

All factors bundled together still produce an exciting and well acted motion picture.

I should mention that there is also Kelly Reilly in the film, who is also Mrs. Watson in the Sherlock Holmes franchise, some will argue that she's not very pretty, but she has a beautiful smile and I find her charming and very touching in Flight.

Just wow..that's just remarkable genetics picture perfect beauty, at least to me. You have good tastes I'll give you that. Never seen her before and hope she'll be in more films.
