It seems that Panasonic may just edge out the Epson this year. They listened to all the complaints and quietly went about their business. Very unusual that they did not show the PT-AE8000U at Cedia this year.

When I heard the street price of the Epson 5020 would be around $2599.00 then I knew Panasonic would have to at least match them to be a contender.

I have a Benq W6000 and the main reason for my wanting to upgrade is the less than stellar blacks and no 3D. How much better do you think the blacks would be on the new panny? It always seems Epson edges out everyone in that area but JVC. If I did not game as much as I do then I would get a 5020 in a heartbeat, but with no info on the lag issue, this panny might be the perfect upgrade.

I actually looked at them early on (last week) and they didn't even have the 8000 listed. I'll hit up VA tomorrow morning to see if they will price match...if not then I'll jumping on the AGI wagon. If I can get the panny for $400 cheaper then that gives me room to look at the Carada screen.

I just ordered the 7000 last week as I decided the improvements to the 8000 weren't worth an extra $600 plus $200 worth of free glasses. But at $2599 I'll be sending the 7000 back and ordering the 8000. Bummer about the glasses though. Our new HT Room will be completed today and just in time to buy components. I had been eyeing the JVC RS-45 for the last month or so but now this new Panny has changed my mind. What are everyone's thoughts?

It would be nice to have a "good" 3d projector.

Is the "External IR Emitter" that is being sold for about $200 with the 8000 something that is necessary for 3D? Or is that if you want to have a 2nd emitter other than the one that comes with the projector?

The PT-AE8000U projector’s built-in IR transmitter enables synchronization with active shutter 3D glasses and can transmit up to 20 feet. An optional IR transmitter offers greater installation flexibility with a transmission distance of up to 33 feet.

Update on authorized resellers. The list has been updated to include "Projector People" for the PT-AE8000U.

Okay thank you! I definitely plan to have my projector mounted overheat of where I will be sitting, so I don't think this will be an issue.

I talked to one of the authorized dealers and it seems like the projector is scheduled to ship by the end of the month to early October. I'll be placing my pre-order this week.

Visual Apex won't match the AGI price.

Just got a reply from VA that said after talking with Panasonic they don't believe AGI will be able to sell it for what's listed. I'll be signing up at AGI just in case and keep my order with VA as well.

Can someone post the link to where Panasonic lists Audio General as an authorized reseller. I just ordered the AE8000 from them. If they are an authorized reseller, then the form for 2 3D glasses pairs will work.

I saw it on their site (just Google) and yes, they should be good for the free glasses.

However, I just went back to AGI this morning to place my preorder with them and they no longer have an Add to Cart button. So I hope those of you that ordered get it.

I wonder if the issues in China will affect the availability and production schedule of the new AE8000U? They claim their plant there has been sabotaged, but not sure to what extent or what was being made there.

Yes AGI had the click to buy option this morning but has now been removed.

I pre-ordered over the phone with AGI about 45 minutes ago (12:30 eastern) and it was still $2599. But the price doesn't even show on their website now.

Thanks for the Panasonic link on authorized resellers. I also called AGI and they could not tell me if the 2 pairs of glasses deal would work or not. The VA form from Panasonic just requests authorized reseller and package information/receipt. Assuming the AE8000 arrives, I will just send in all of the information requested including my AGI receipt and see if the glasses show up.

Yes, they are. Both VA and PP refused to even consider a price match. My order is now in at AGI. Let them cry foul. My business is going elsewhere.

I'll be calling AGI and placing an order there if it is still $2599...as I did cancel my pre-order through Visual Apex. With a company such as AGI that has been in business so long, I'm hoping this isn't a misconception and the price will be honored. If not, I'll be the one "crying foul" all over the Web and forums, etc. to discourage folks from making a mistake in the future. Just based on Web sites alone (which I do judge a company somewhat), Projector People and Visual Apex are the winners...as AGI's site needs some SERIOUS updating.

As others have stated, Visual Apex will NOT price match...as I asked when I called to cancel my order.

I just called AGI to order. The guy said the selling price from Panasonic was wrong ?? and he wouldn't be able to sell for $2599. He said he would beat PP and VA prices though.

Things are starting to get interesting. I specifically confirmed the price when I put my order in. Not good business practices to go back on that. Feedback for them will plummet.

Just got off the phone with AGI and they said Panasonic "raised the price" and cannot sell it for 2599 but will for 2899. I asked about those that preordered for 2599 and he acted as if they would honor it. For those who did I hope y'all get it. I'll be sticking with VA as I guess I missed this boat. Hopefully, VA will lower their price a bit before launch but I won't hold my breath.

Just called AGI and he said "to the best of his knowledge orders already in will be honored". So I'll hang on to my order and see what happens. Went on to say that Panasonic raised their prices today.

Good-luck to those that ordered, I think I will be switching back to JVC as I had initially decided on.

You might consider the Panasonic 7000. Projector Point has it for $2349 with free shipping. That was my original choice after comparing it to the RS45, mainly because of brightness.
