I've always run sound through the receiver and picture straight from source to pj. So now I have no sound with the xbox. As I said, picture's great, but no sound. I've never had this issue as all my other sources have separate audio and video output. The huge xbox cable makes it impossible to do both separately.

You can take the big plastic part off of the Xbox 360 cable and expose the underlying metal piece. It pops right off with a small flathead screw driver.
I used to have my 360 hooked up via HDMI and VGA at the same time to different sources by doing that, because I was tired of swapping the cables every time.
I'm not sure though if you can do optical audio from one connection and HDMI video from the other though.
