I'd like to upgrade from my QTP6416-2 to Verizon's newer FIOS QIP7132 500 GB model, even pay the $40 fee, but the caveat is "any stored content and user settings would be lost as part of the set-top exchange." I don't want to lose all the shows I have on the old box, it's 93% full. Too tedious to record them all out to DVD in realtime as video. The 6400 series box has firewire and usb ports, perhaps disabled, but no eSata in any case. I have Macs, PCs, and Linux machines available to do this.
One thing I suppose could be done is to pull the existing drive and clone it to a larger volume using block-duplication hardware, but I fear there may be caveats to doing that as far as Verizon is concerned (such as physical tamper seals or some kind of signature key).
Anyone ever hacked this before or am I on my own?
