Newbie, need help!!!!!!!!!!!

As a newbie, I just bought the Denon 1612 and Pioneer SP-FS51 / SP-C21/BS21 for my first HT.

I am living in apartment, So I worry about that maybe subwoofer could drive my neighbors crazy.

However, when I watch some movie, I could feel my system is a little bit weak.

Do you guys think if a pioneer sub SW-8 or Polk PSW10 could improve the quality?

my living room is about 16*9*8, but it connect the dining room. So the total open space in L sharp and about 1600 cu ft.

Any good suggestion? my budget is arround 150.

of course, I don't want any neighbor to knock my door.

IMO, stretch your budget to ~$200 and get an Energy S10.3 when it's on sale for that price.

BTW, the AVR-1612 was a good choice. It's a pretty solid receiver for the money.

Any sub you play too loud will make trouble. wink.gif

Just calibrate your system (your AVR has Audyssey MultEQ to help with that) and enjoy. If your neighbours complain that the bass is too loud, you can always lower the level of the subwoofer in the AVR's speaker set-up menu.

yeah, I bought the 1612 on sale, only 166. really good price.

and the front speak 130.

Now, I saw the POLK PSW10 only 90. so the Energy S10.3 is double the price. is there a huge difference?

Some people actually talk to their neighbors about there forthcoming subwoofer purchase and discuss how to handle things if the volume of the subwoofer is too loud. smile.gif

You better believe there is a huge difference. If you need evidence I can alwys post frequency response graphs of the Energy S10.3, The Energy competes with subs costing upwards of $450.

in the 200 price range, I saw a lot of people in this forum like the Bic F12.

Energy S10.3 and BIC F12, which is better?

If you can bide your time the Energy S10.3 may go down to $170 from Newegg. That sale was only a couple of weeks ago. I would guess that the great demand for the Energy S10.3 has forced the price up to $200. But even so, the price could drop again at any time. smile.gif

I've had the chance to demo both the Energy S10.3 and the Polk PSW10 and, IMO, the Energy is significantly better than the Polk. It's an excellent sub for $200.

if onsale 170, I will think about the Energy S10.3. I could wait.

Right now, I am satisfied with my system, when it plays the music. the Pioneer speak is much better than I imagined.

In a smaller room and/or at moderate listening levels, the PSW10 should work just fine (although it won't dig as deep as the S10.3). If you have the option to buy it, try it and return it if you don't like it, go for it. smile.gif

Many buyers think they are going to be satisfied with a lesser subwoofer, but most of the time after as littles as a few weeks, people end up wishing they purchased the better model. Once you experience something like the Energy S10.3 you will never go back. This section is full of posts by people who thought that they could be satisfied by something really cheap and small. Too bad that is what people report almost every day here on the Forum. smile.gif

I know, the HT or HiFi just like the poison. when you experienced, you will expect more.

So, If I buy a PSW10 now, feel not so good, then add another PSW10, go to the 5.2. Do you think it will be good as Energy S10.3?

No one can answer that question for you. It is an ongoing debate about which is better, one higher performing subwoofer versus two lesser subwoofers. Some people prefer one higher performing subwoofer, while other people prefer two lesser subwoofers.

Each approach has its advantages and its disadvantages.

So, It looks like I could buy a PSW10 now. if not bad, I save the money.

If not satisfied, buy another and put under my front stand. maybe that will be similar as the Energy S10.3, and same price.

It's a free world biggrin.gif. so you can buy anything you want, however, here is a link to someone who bought the PSW10 and found that after listening for 6 months he was really disappointed:

But in your situation you should be satisfied with the Polk PSW10's, but using my hard-earned money, I wouldn't waste my time on something as disappointing as the PSW10. After you read the link above tell us how your decision is coming along. smile.gif

I had a PSW110. It's adequate, but with subs depth is everything. Save your money and buy the Energy.

I'm a tight ass with money. It took me two upgrades before I finally admitted to myself that if you're an enthusiast and you must choose between two items that are in roughly the same ballpark you should always go with the better of the two. (This goes for any hobby, not just home theater.) In this case the Energy sub is the better sub. Had I realized this sooner I would have saved the cost of my first setup and the hassle of finding someone to buy it.

I just went to BB and test the Pioneer SW-8 and Polk PSW10. they are totally different.

SW-8 is very clear,that's I like very much, but not strong enough. and I could feel the power from PSW10, but very muddy.

for me, the SW-8 even better than PSW10.

do you know where I can try the Energy S10.3? I only found it sale online.

BTW, what about the Jamo SUB 210? for my small living room, maybe 8"sub looks better.
