I don't get it either. I think she's a terrible singer.

St Nick would be a longshot to win .. when America gets the vote, I'm sure many will not appreciate his unique vocals and great voice .. and even if they do, the prettier contestants will get more votes ..

Like I've said before, everytime I see her I think .. paint some freckles around her nose and she'd be Raggedy Ann .. I know she's supposed to be an "artist" but her singing is crap, IMO ..

Shows how out of touch we are. Melanie is the 2nd highest rated/voted-for song on iTunes from last night's show. The kid that sang Call Me Maybe is the only one ahead of her. I loved Lauren last night, but the iTunes studio recording is so damn bad. Like a wedding singer.

Well, since I'm an oldster, I can't account for peoples taste .. the kid that sang Call Me Maybe could be the next Bieber for all I know ..

Melanies popularity must be some sort of Vulcan Mind Meld with young people ..

Is Melanie the one with two tone hair? She's like a Disneyfied version of Bjork. Very disconcerting.

More disconcerting was Adam's fashion statement (on Monday night.) I wear better T-shirts working on my car! eek.gif

I thought the singing was all over the place, some were soooo bad, some were just awesome. Not sure I agree with all the judges picks.

Mondays show was substantially better than Tuesdays, IMO .. Blake seemed a little out of it .. his coaching seemed pretty bland to me ..

I was thinking the same thing...my old T-Shirts I have been keeping for 20 years are evidently back in style!

Although I think the level of talent is pretty good this year, the way the pairing has been set up is unfair to many of the singers. Excellent singers are getting tossed that are far better than others because they want a dissimilar style. Not fair. Let the public decide. Choose the best singers...and not the ones who you think you can mold, etc. That said I thought Terry McDermott was by far the best out there. At least he was so obvious he made it through.

Christina really shows why she's so much better than the "divas" that are on other singing competitions. She's lucid, insightful, and she's not afraid to show that she can actually sing.

I think from a coaches standpoint, it makes perfect sense to try and stick with talent that you yourself are good at .. if you don't feel you can advance a contestant, then let them go home .. the public will begin to decide soon ..

100% agree .. in fact, she may be the best mentor of the 4 ..
I think that Christina is a ridiculously great singer but she likes people that try to sing like her but don't have the chops making it very shrieky and annoying. When Christina does all those runs it's awesome and she can pull it off.

Maroon 5 is coming to Tulsa soon and my wife and I are going to give Adam a new pack to Fruit of the Loom tees to wear rolleyes.gif

Ok....based upon last night's performances the last singer won the contest...IMO...also the country singer knocked it out of the park.

I guess you are talking about Liz Davis here. I thought she performed a standard country song in a very safe manner. It was almost a "play not to lose" situation as opposed to a "play to win" approach. The performance probably will get her to the next round, but the reason she has been stalled in Nashville all these years is because she sounds just like every other country singer.

That's what my wife said. She said something like, "If you told me that her name was Martina Mcbride, Taylor Swift, or MIranda Lambert, I'd believe you. She sounds like a female country singer. Nothing really special about her."

Liz played it super safe. Nothing stood out about her performance to me. Amanda Brown (the last performer) knocked it out of the park. Wow! Great job!

I have not watched last nights episode yet .. however, I'd tend to agree with this ranking .. although even though I've dissed her in the past, I did find Melanie Martinez performance to be strangely compelling .. it was also obvious Xtina did not like it .. I thought Julio Cesar Castillo did a great job and was as close to perfect pitch as he could practically get .. Amanda, to me, won the night .. I've never heard a woman sing "Dream On" and it worked with her very well ..

I havent watched last night's either yet, but did watch Monday's. Amanda blew everyone else away. There really werent any bad performances, but hers was just stellar by any reality singing show measurement. So far the show hasn't suffered the dropoff in viewers that affected the first two seasons. Monday drew 12 million viewers in the coveted age range. Compare that to the 7 million measly viewers Simon and Britney (LOL, nice use of 15 million dollars) pulled for X Factor last week. Will be interesting though to see how the two shows did last night since they were directly up against one another.

I don't care if Terry McDermontt was the best singer in the world. I can't respect a man on any level that has that haircut. The modified mullet is not a good look.

I'd pay to see her in concert and I bought the single .. Steven sang that on the Sandy Benefit show the other day and was just plain awful on his own song ..

Amanda was great .. and she looked pretty good too .. biggrin.gif

I gotta say it is distracting .. I don't know what look he's going for, honestly .. Hobbit .. ??

Agreed. It just looks weird. He has a really bland stage presence too. Good voice though.

*Edit*

Sorry Simon, but you got destroyed:

Meanwhile, the karaoke shows had another head-to-head bout. The Voice (10.4 million, 3.7) beat Fox’s X-Factor (6.9 million, 2.6) hands down.

Finally catching up here after months of crushing hours at work.

Amanda Brown is absolutely amazing, as is Nicholas. Agreed on Melanie - that is one weird voice - IMO she should never have made it onto the show.

I like Terry M. I'm a rock guy, and pull for him, but I just didn't care for his rendition of Don't Stop Believin'. I can't pinpoint it but something just wasn't right with that. That said, I've been pulling/voting for Michaela Page - she's a impressive little rocker chick!

The one no one has pointed out is Jose Castillo. In his own element (El Rey), he shines brilliantly. But when I've heard him sing on pop/rock tracks in past shows, he's just downright awful - worse than your average karaoke singer IMO. WHY is he still around?

I can't believe Jose won that head-to-head battle last week. You're right that when he sings pop songs he's horrendous.
