I thought he sang Usher? Which I thought was bad by the way.

Yep, Usher. Trevin's problem wasn't that he strayed from ballads. It's that he chose a song that's complete crapola.

Yeah that song it just filler for Usher to show off his sweet dance moves. It doesn't work if you're a chubby dude that can't dance so you just stand there and sing it.

Bingo! Usher & Rush are out of my loop where they need to be. Stay away from Usher and ilk, Trevin, and win the damned thing.

I don't think he has a chance.

Melanie Martinez sounds just like "Angus & Julie Stone" (the Julie part, ha ha). "Big Jet Plane" anyone?

I never heard of them or this song before, so I just watched the video.

Can't tell if your comment was meant to be a joke because I couldn't even hear the woman (Julia) at all in the song.

Sorry, bad choice of song. They are probably most well known for that track, but try "Wasted" for example.

Yup, I can definitely hear her in Julia's voice there.

Now, even though I'm not a Melanie fan, I could see her singing this on the show because of the similarity. That to me wouldn't be as bad as completely changing a song to the point of it being unrecognizable.

Hi! i'm new in the forum but I just had to join this thread because I love this show! Unlike American Idol where we can tell who is most likely to win since Day 1 (consider, 5 years in the running, white boy with guitar, WBWG they call it). In this show, it's pretty uncertain who will win the grand prize. What I like about it, is that it gives chances to good singers who won't otherwise win in Idol (those over 25 yrs of age). Season 3 I believe has a crop of really good talents (compared to the other years). In every singing reality show I've noticed that there are always (a) Female eccentric waifs - like Melanie (b) power house male singer - like Trevyn, (c) power house female singer - Amanda, (d) Hearthrob type - Dez, (e) Pop teen Wanabee - Casadee, and (f) Resident rocker - Terry M ... oh, and Nicholas David is really an "Indie" type (quotes like Blake), except that Ceelo has made him into a retro-pop/disco artist (Thank God for his last song "Lean on Me" -- anymore of those Power of Love and he may be out of the game! The rest of the "types" has been eliminated.

I do wish to see, however, more consistency in Amanda (but I have a feeling that a female winner is really unlikely...) more range for Casadee (she peaked too early, I will be pleasantly surprised if she has more tricks up her sleeve). I hope to see Nicholas David do more soul/indie songs, and I most certainly wish Terry McDermott to choose his own songs, "Maybe I'm Amazed "and "Baba O'Riley" were the great! And then, (with all due respect to Blake ,he's great) ... those last few tired classic rock songs didn't do Terry any good...Summer of 69 was an improvement (but still lacks that "moment")... I wish Terry will sing U2, I think he will find his "moment" there... smile.gif

Maybe more McCartney songs? He certainly has the voice for them. Lots to choose from too.

Unless Terry wants to be a cover tune front for a cover band, he needs to step out of that shell and do something contemporary and make it his own .. and McCartney or The Who is just more of the same .. at this point, he's been able to get by, but has no chance at all of winning unless he changes the game up ..

Agreed. Note-for-note renditions of classic rock songs is a good recipe for losing.

Welcome to AVS and the thread .. smile.gif

Your saying "Maybe I'm Amazed "and "Baba O'Riley" are not tired classic rock .. ??

The point I'm making is classic rock, although wonderful, is pretty much all tired when talking about songs that get consistent rotation on radio or Internet and have now for what seems like 100 years .. that's why these songs are known by all .. sure, they may be fun, but he's just not making them anything better than I can hear from a cover band at a local bar .. I like the dude, but the term one trick pony comes to mind ..

I wouldn't even say they were note for note. I have purchased a good many of the songs from iTunes, and during my 12+ hour drive round-trip to visit family over Thanksgiving, I had a chance to listen carefully to many of them at near reference level volumes. God, I didn't realize how bad Terry was until then. I'm a rocker, and a classic rocker at that - I love every song he's sung so far (and know them by heart). When I actually listened to the first few lines of Summer of 69, Terry wasn't even SINGING them, it sounded more like he was SPEAKING them (not to mention that the entire mix of that track sounded flat - it really sounded like a karaoke performance). And trust me, he's redone plenty of the songs to fit his style - but it's more subtle stuff, like placing the emphasis on different words in the lyrics. If he doesn't show something more current, that shows what he's about, then he needs to be out.

I also noticed that I was less impressed with Trevin's performances as well, after listening to them with just audio, no flash, no visuals, just pure music.

I am so anxious to buy Nicholas' album RIGHT NOW, dammit!

I am probably in the minority here, but I really liked Slyvia Yacoub's performances, and didn't flind many flaws with them listening to them on the drive. I could seriously consider purchasing one of her albums. Wish she had stayed on and Cody had gotten the ax.

I wonder if the live band is the same band they're using in the studio when they make the iTunes recordings, because most of the ones I've heard don't sound all that great.

I thought XTina was so transparent last night with her thinly veiled re-cap on Amanda and a few other select digs here and there .. then, she talked up Dez like he was the Messiah ..

I thought Terry flat out sucked .. time to go

Cassadee seemed OK but the sound mix on my feed last night with her was very muddy ..

Amanda I had mixed feelings on .. Melanie seemed very emotional and turned in her usual performance .. she's pretty consistent ..

St Nick deserves to win .. the cat channeled Marvin Gaye last night and sent a chill down my spine a couple times .. and he's a pretty good keyboard player to boot .. Trevin back to his forte after last weeks disaster .. Cody was off key in several places, Adam knew it and alluded to it .. I don't understand why no one else did ..

I see Cody and Terry hitting the road tonight ..

The Voice continues to dominate. Ratings up 14 percent. By this time in prior seasons viewership was declining each week. I'd say it's because of different times of the year, but X Factor is on at the same time of the year and it's essentially dying. Quality sometimes trumps garbage.

iTunes Over All Singles Chart Rankings
(at approximately 1:30 ET, Tuesday. Nov 27)

2. Are You Happy Now? – Cassadee Pope
3. Too Close – Melanie Martinez
8. What’s Going On – Nicholas David
15. Someone Like You – Amanda Brown
19. Over – Terry McDermott
30. Somebody to Love – Cody Belew
32. Greatest Love of All – Trevin Hunte
45. U Smile – Dez Duron

I predict Trevin will go home, with Cody, Dez, and Terry in a close race to join him.

I relistened to Trevin this morning and I would have to agree ..

I think I agree 100% with the order of everyone. Dez somehow made a Justin Beiber song fruitier than it already was. Cody is obnoxious. Trevin just isn't good. Terry is shaming his family with that hair.

Early on, Trevin must have been singing material he had practiced a lot .. because he went down hill fast .. and I don't understand why the panel continues to act like he can walk on water ..

Cody is all flash, no substance .. last night when he was expected to actually sing, he failed .. Freddy was rolling in his grave last night ..

We already have one Harry Connick JR .. Dez is doing a bad impersonation ..

Terry the Hobbit .. goodbye, please ..

After Monday's performances I realized something. I was being hypocritical in my bashing of changing a song.

After hearing Amanda's version of an Adele song made me realize it's not the changing of a song that bothers me, but has more to do with the tempo.

Melanie slowing songs down that normally have a faster tempo is what irked me moreso than the actual performance.

So, that said, I realize my bias now and will watch her more with an open mind. She's still far from my favorite as I like more uptempo songs, but I won't bash her anymore for her style.

Cody & Terry on the jet plane. No harm; no foul.
Please God, make Melanie next.

Cody and Dez were eliminated this week. Terry is still in the competition.

I'm not sure how Trevin survived, but he did. cool.gif

I wonder if not having a team will make Xtina even more passive aggressive than she was this week, or perhaps looseen her tight ass up.

I noticed that the producers stopped getting her opinion for the last few performers on Monday night. I guess they noticed her cheerleading as well. She looked totally disinterested in the performances after Dez performed. Who's replacing her next year?

I know for myself it's getting really annoying.
I was behind 3 shows because of the holiday, so I finally caught up last night on the 3 of them plus last night's results.

I would not call those "shrieking" little girls... I would call them SQUEALING little girls. Or maybe it's post-production sound effects, because there is no reason that type of noise is justified for minutes continuously because someone's name gets mentioned.

I am seriously bothered by the SQUEALING, which seems to be coming from the X-Factor studio. I mean this is seriously offensive. Doesn't matter who the name is... SQUEALS!!

Also, there seems to be a 100% glowing, effusive commentary from every judge about every artist. Personally, I think many actually stink (e.g. Melanie simply cannot sing and has no voice... heaven only knows how she's made it this far). Nicholas David is constantly off-key, so why is he so successful??? And yet, the judges (including Blake in particular) keep sturggling to come up with ever newer and different and even more positive adjectives and descriptions, of what truly were awful performances. They're always falling all over themselves with undeserved praise and expressions of how miraculous and wondrous that stinking performance just was!! Boggles the mind.

This is monotonous, dishonest, and non-critical. If Britney's constant "amazing" is irritating, the four judges on The Voice have deteriorated into meaninglessness. Surely they can say something critical when it's deserved, which to me now seems almost all the time deserved.

Carson Daly opens his mouth and shouts over the crowd in a monotone unemotional sing-song which is not much more than a small improvement over Khloe Khardashian's emotionless robot-speak, and the SQUEALS come from who knows where whenever he mentions a name. The judges are rubber-stamping and just glowing with undue unjustified superlative praise for crummy performances. The group numbers are ludicrously inferior and over-staged, much like on that other show we all hate.

I think I'm finished after this season ends... which thankfully is not too much longer.

This show has seriously deteriorated. I had liked it, but find myself screaming at the judges and everything about it now.
