The Voice Season 3, September 10, 2012 NBC HD - Page 15

My take is three of the four songs were so well known they upstaged the singers to the point I didn't care who was singing them. I really don't understand why these shows won't let artists be themselves. Personally, I don't care how well someone can sing The Star-Spangled Banner. I'd much rather get to know them and their music style...

Then they would have to change the name of the show wink.gif

I don't mind at all... I like when the singers re-interpret a song and like it also when they can nail the song just like the original...

Seems pretty obvious after last night who should be going home.

For me, Nick was way up there,
Cassadee was a close second,
big gap -> then Terry (he has a nice voice, but he has no emotional connection to the songs and zero stage presence),
bigger gap -> Trevin, who was almost a semi-tone flat for the entire song.

Nick FTW!!!

It's a good thing our tastes are different. My two favorites last night were Cassadee and (can't believe I'm saying this) Terry. Then came Nick with Trevin lagging waaaaaaay behind. Trevin just proves there must more to singing than just vocal gymnastics. Ugh, ugh, and triple ugh.

Agree that Amanda should still be with us. But Cassadee has a great voice, her only problem being that the judges push all those singers to go over the top, and she gets screechy every week to one extent or the other. Trevin is the worst example of this - painful at times - but I do believe that with training and somebody to keep him in a range where he's effective he can have a fine career.

Like some others here, Nicholas is far and away my favorite, though his last two weeks haven't been too good, in my opinion. But he's a musician, which allows him to do subtle bluesey things with his rich old voice that give you goose bumps sometimes. If he's in the finals, he needs to pick a song that lets him show off his soulfulness - Marvin Gaye, Michael McDonald, like that.

agree cwilson.....sounded like last night Nic and Ceelo had a big disagreement about which song he was going to sing....wonder who won?

I don't understand why Trevin is still even in it .. he should have gone home weeks ago ..

And, St Nick looks much better without the glasses ..

I am still interested in the sudden change from the 2 person final that Adam, Blake, and Cassadee spoke about last week, to this 3 person final. This smells of Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Cowell type tampering of the show format to steer an outcome.

Some have speculated that the producers want Cassadee to win, and are rigging the show in her favor.

I expect a ton of pimping for Cassadee next week.

Do you agree with this theory? Do you think that viewers would have picked Terry over Cassadee in a head-to-head battle?

Based on what we've seen in voting trends and ITunes placement over the last few weeks, Cass has been the favorite .. and as I've said on the thread several times, she is the most commercially viable singer left on the show .. I persoanally believe it should be a choice between Cass and St Nick .. at the same time, I believe better singers than Cass have gone home ..

Of course, if Trevin goes thru tonight, the theory is invalid immediately ..

If I were a record producer, I would want Cass to win .. and Xtina's pimping Cass I have not liked from the get go ..

She's a cute girl with a passable voice .. and Blake has rightfully steered her toward a more Country genre ..

^^^^^^ +1

So there it is. Nicholas and Terry are in the finals, where they rightfully belong. My apprehension with this is that the votes of those who do not like Casadee will be split between the two... Securing her win next week. Terry made it to No.2. in the iTunes Sales, that means he has a following! Not bad for a hobbit. As much as I know Casadee shall win and as much as I really like David. Somehow I also wish upon a star that Terry will win. More dramatic.

Thank goodness the stars aligned and all is right with the world.

Oddly, I thought Trevin had one of his best performances last night with Wind Beneath My Wings .. I'm thinking sharing the stage with his friend St Nick and not having any vote pressure on him, he was relaxed and just decided to sing .. he went out on a good "note" .. wink.gif
post #434 of 489
Trevino shown early and has been on a downhill slide since. His Wind Beneath My Wings was very poor and his Ghetto Yodeling more and more prevalent. His duet appearance last night was abysmal. As one of his supporters, it was time for him to exit and he did that gracefully. David is my choice now.
Was anyone else surprised at Terry signing when he sang the duet with Cass? Terry sounded very good to me.

I've always thought Terry was a pretty good singer .. my beef with him has always been the sameness / and the fact that there is no where to go for a person that specializes in covers of classic Rock tunes .. unless he wants to stay on the bar band / casino / state fair circuit .. of maybe a Broadway revival of "Tommy" .. wink.gif

What was interesting last night was Terry singing in a lower register in his duet with Cassadee. I can't recall him doing that before. He sounded pretty good and when he climbed up into his range he still pulled it back a bit and really sounded good, much better than Cassadee did to my ears. She sounded a bit flat at times in her low register but that is a pretty common problem for younger female singers. It takes some age and vocal maturity to be able to nail those low notes consistently. It's why I still marvel at Lea Michele. That girl can hit any kind of note, high or low, almost effortlessly and she's still only 26.

I don't think I have ever heard Lea without the extensive use of Autotune. What has she done other than Glee?

So, as usual I FF'd through a majority of the performance show. What was this "shocking" announcement that the commercial touted?

As for the performances, Terry picked the perfect time to really knock it out of the park. That is one of those songs that can make or break you and he surprisingly nailed it.

Cassadee once again IMO was okay. I just don't see her as anything different than what it already out there. She was better than Trevin, but if they chose to go final 2 instead of 3, she should have been the next one cut.

THAT, was the perfomance I wanted to see from Nick since the beginning. Ever since the battle rounds ended, there were two competitors that I wanted to see perform a certain singer's song. First was Cody who I thought needed to do Freddie Mercury. I know a lot of you didn't like him or that performance, but I thought he did a fairly good job with it. Let's not forget this is Freddie we are talking about, so of course no one will come close to living up to him, but I think Cody did a fine job.
The 2nd one I said to myself as soon as I heard him was Nick needed to do Joe Cocker. As soon as I heard which song it was he was singing, I was thrilled. My only complaint is him not attempting to hit the signature high note "to me" ending. I would have loved to see him try it. Even if his voice cracked, that would be okay because it's not like Joe Cocker sang that part perfectly either.

Anyway, even though most expect Cass to win this, it wouldn't shock me if Terry and Cass split votes because of them being on the same team and Nick ends up squeaking through with the victory.

That's what I'm hoping for as well .. but, I think St Nick is the Dark Horse ..

When she was still a kid she appeared in Les Mis, Ragtime and Fiddler on Broadway and then from 2006 - 2008 starred along with Jonathan Groff in the smash hit show Spring Awakening. Look up some her clips on YouTube (or elsewhere). Trust me, the girl needs no autotuning when she's performing live.

It was nice to finally hear him sing something other than classic rock. He sounded great on it.

Fire
Fire
Fire
he he he he
(Beavis liked Nick'sperformance)

Man, as soon as Nick started into GBOF, all I could think was that his gal was gonna break in with "Nick, ya' big stud, take me to bed or lose me forever". Then later, when I found out his kid's nickname is Iceman. . .well, that was just hilarious - at least to me. (if you're struggling with the reference, go back to one of the top movies of 1986).

All kidding and quoting aside, Nick put in another solid performance. Really hoping America rewards him with a win. I'm hoping:

Nick
Cassadee
Terry
Cass leading by hundreds of votes on iTunes, followed by Terry and then closely behind Terry is Nick.

I loved Cassadee's song choice, didn't understand Terry's, and really enjoyed the mixing of Fire with GBOF. The opening of the episode illustrated once again why The Voice is the only classy show among the various singing competitions. Really nice.

So there it was, the awaited finale. For me, the dark horse is Terry the Hobbit. As much as I like David, he didn't give the best performance tonight. And i never cared for The girl. i did love the retro rock songs of Terry and he sings it so well! Calling ye all retro rockers of the world unite! Let's vote for the Hobbit!

You never cared for "the girl?" OMG, she's fabulous! And, for the record, her name is Cassadee Pope.

No doubt in my mind Cassadee won the contest. Nick (IMO) feel way short last night with his song choices and not attempting to hit the high notes on Great Balls.....Terry was solid but not enough.

Cassadee
Terry
Nick
If Terry finishes ahead of Nick in either iTunes sales or the overall votes later tonight, then there is something seriously wrong with America.

He flat out SUCKED on that song. Hell, the only songs he's even remotely sang well are "Summer of 69" and "Let It Be". But once again we get the wishy-washy praise from the judges that he was great. rolleyes.gif Great to who, someone who is tone deaf?

As for Nick not hitting the high notes on "Great Balls of Fire", he never tries for them. I don't think he has the ability to go that high. Case in point his avoiding the ending high part words "to me" in "You Are So Beautiful".

^^Agreed Tom. I must be watching someone different from everyone else, because while I love the songs Terry sings, he sounds worse than a local karaoke singer. I JUST - DON'T - GET - IT!
