Recommended receiver for simple (cheap) setup?

Thread Starter
  1. I need an HDMI in for Directv, PS3, and computer.
  2. I need/want 7.1 channels since I have the speakers and an ok sized room.
  3. I want something that will make my cheap/old speakers sound good. (some kind of auto eq or lots of options)
  4. It has to be LESS than $395 after shipping. (I'd prefer to stay away from refurbished as well if possible)
Bonus points if it has zones and good upconversion.

I have no brand loyalty at all, but want this to last obviously.
I have no need whatsoever for network connectivity, bluetooth, ipod nonsense, or on screen menus.

What are my best options?

If you have all HDMI sources you dont need upconversion.

Get a Denon AVR 1712 if you can find one. It uses Audyssey MultEQ XT which is one of the best room calibration and EQ systems. It'll make your cheap/old speakers sound good or at least better.

Is $399 shipped going to break the bank? $4 over your budget. That's actually list price so if you find one in Best Buy or somewhere you can probably negotiate a discount since it is now discontinued.
