Why do you want a 2600K, I own one and I own 2 2500Ks, save $100 and get the 2500K it wil OC right to the 2600K levels and will perform just as well in games. I put them all to 4.0 ghz on air with the stock heat sink and stock thermal paste. No voltage changes not a single problem. These things tend to OC better than ivy bridge, the big gains in ivy bridge where in the on chip GPU (HD4000) so if you are about to buy a nice GPU you arent going to care about that GPU performance so the over clock on the sandybridge part is a better buy for performance than the ivy bridge parts.
PubFiction, not sure what the 2600k and 2500k is lol. I guess the CPU?
There’s been a bit of a bump in the road tho…Microcenter doesn’t have all the recommended parts (boo). And they said they can’t order in from other Micros (I’d be using the Ohio – Cincinnati/ Sharonville store exclusively if ya wanna look at their inventory). Now they DID tell me that I can get parts from elsewhere (Newegg, Amazon) and they would use them in the build, so that’s good if there’s some part I just gotta have that they don’t. also they give a 90 day warranty on the built unit itself, and I get all the packaging and warranties from the individual parts, and the rebates and free game (Borderlands 2) promos I get too. AND they’ll work w/ me on prices if they’re higher than Newegg. Like that! Because they’re like $50 more on the EVGA 4GB 670 Superclocked card (Marafice, the last card you linked to is outta stock so was thinkin of going w/ that evga).
So I’ve put together a list of Microcenter stuff that I think might be comparable. See what ya think…
Case – I’m not sure here at all. I figure it’s gotta be a full size. Maybe this, tho it’s more than wanted to spend. http://www.microcenter.com/product/338051/HAF_X_Full_Tower_ATX_Gaming_Computer_Case
Power Supply – TOTALLY not sure here. could really use help here. don’t wanna scrimp on this. They got a Fatal1ty 1000w that might be good deal. Couple Gold certs. I dunno. Help!
Motherboard – I think this is the same z77 mob
CPU – they got the same 17 and it’s a lot cheaper!
CPU Cooler – I’d like to get this recommended one but MC ain’t got it.
help on this please. MC have a comparable one?
RAM –this maybe? It has rebate
SSD – They got the same and it’s cheaper!
HDD – do I need a 2nd hdd?
now I have to admit, the lil woman kinda balked on the newest builds. She said since I’d been asking all along for a build that would play games at their best, and was getting builds for $1000-1300, she didn’t really think y’all could add that much to it lol. So in the interest of her not hating me for the next year, I wouldn’t mind cutting some costs a bit if possible. But I don’t wanna lower gaming quality much. I’m still gonna take advantage of her offer. So do I need a 2nd HDD? How’s it help in gaming. Like I keep all my currently played games and stuff on the main SDD, and stuff like old games, movies, ect on the 2nd? I usually deletes old games since I either have discs or can reinstall off Steam, and I make a backup of saves onto an external drive I have.
Oh and what’s RAID do? Does it help w/ gaming? I was reading that RAID -0 can be bad, in that if 1 HDD goes down you can lose all data.
anyway, thanks again for all your help. sorry to keep bothering, but we're sooo close now!
edit: dammit! didn't think about local tax. it's already up to like $130. maybe i should just buy a couple things at Microcenter and the rest off Newgg or Amazon (i build up points there). then i'd save tax. but it'd take probably 10 days to get it all in. wanted to get started ;(Edited by Mookeylama - 8/28/12 at 1:12pm
