GB is a new LED backlighting technology being used to get ultra wide gamut.

The Dell u3014 was one of the first monitors to use it.

It's also being used in other professional monitors.

Just got up and running with CalMan 5. Not as easy as it's made out to be. I can't figure out how to use autocal. My projector, JVS rs46U is connected, my AVS disk is loaded, and...... confused.gif

I also tried doing manual cal. I get an error on the same measurement using "color checker".
You should use the jvcs internal generator.

The autocal button will be enabled where you can use it.

The avs disc doesnt Have colorchecker patches. The jvc generator will be able to.

Hello, If you are interest to check how the ColorChecker Classic / SG / SG Fleshtones performance of your setup using a disk where the patterns are generated from your actual source, take a look at this calibration disk.

These CalMAN Chapters are based to the exact same pattern order sequence that CalMAN requests them, and the RGB Triplets of each color patch are exact the same as CalMAN Internal Engine works/expects, to correctly calculate the dE numbers. wink.gif

Well after several weeks of trying to get my HP Pavillion laptop to work with Calman, $900 later for a new Asus Laptop and 2-3 hours in the theater learning how to interface the DVDO DUO and Calman 5 .... I finally did a calibration (or three) last night.

Came into some questions, to see if I did things right. I started up the Advanced Tutorial. I first set the brightness, contrast and tint using the available test checkerboard and color bars that showed up on the screen (generated by the DUO) that were displayed by clicking the appropriate boxes in Calman. I set them using the JVC RS45U remote. I then clicked through the NEXT buttons and hit AUTOCALIBRATE on every screen that I could. I wont pretend to know what I was looking at (measurement graphs) but at the end the temp was real close to 6500 and RGB graph was flat lined. The tutorial completed and said I was done. (actually did this 1 in basic and 2 times in advance because I accidentally clicked on something stopping the testing/CMS settings)

Afterwards I couldn't for the life of me find how to generate the report of the calibration. I clicked LOAD CALIBRATION and report, but the report was without any data.

Also, how does/could a person measure foot lambert with this. I am curious to what my JVC RS45U is putting out and know that I had to adjust the brightness up quite a bit in the beginning of the calibration. (I repviously adjusted the projector with the Disney WOW disc.) Thanks

Ted does your disc have 75/75 patterns and sweeps ?

Hello, yes the above contents are included for CalMAN users.

4/5/10-Step Saturation with 75% or 100% Stimulus Level
4/5/10-Step Luminance with 75% or 100% Stimulus Level
for 1-Point CMS: 75/75 - 75/100 - 100/75 - 100/100.
ColorChecker Classic / SG / SG Fleshtones.

The whole CalMAN session of the disk is created based on CalMAN's 5.2 Internal Engine RGB Triplet targets, with the exact same pattern order sequence that CalMAN requests them, very user friendly wink.gif

Same here. We must be missing something.

When you are at the report screen, is there a "generate report" button right above the report area still?

Yes

lol, I was trying to answer the question above.. I guess I should have quoted it. I was intimating that they may need to hit generate report for it to work... I guess I could work on being more direct.

e.g. Did you hit the generate report button after loading the report? Maybe it works another way -preloading a report at startup, but I don't generally use CalMan that way lately... Not out doing calibrations right now, so I am mainly trying to work on my setup -made the i1/C6 bracket for my tripod (ala airscapes) for profiling, etc..

ps, you're up early Ray:O.

I have all the buttons available and when I save calibration and view report there's no data. Same when I load a previous report or generate report. Using Calman 5 control.

Also, was just in the middle of calibration, advance workflow, and it crashed. Unrecoverable error. Is there a way to get back to where I was or do I have to start over?
got you, bummer on the crash. I would expect starting over, but ??... Think it's time to talk with SpectraCal. Reports I thought were fairly fixed at this point. Maybe I am not understanding something correctly, then maybe it is an issue...

Is this what you tried? It's just one of many ways. Just did this to see how my system is behaving with 5.2.3 (haven't loaded the 5.3RC1).

*I opened CalMan (no preloaded report or workflow), went to "find calibration session", chose "view report" (from a full calibration session with data), and it loaded with data in place; however, it did not load the meter, PG, etc. on the 1st page until I "generated" the report.

So, that's what I have going on at my end. Hope this helps...
Regards....
Yep, I view previous calibrations..... view report and hit Generate Report. The "report" doesn't have any data on any of the graphs except for the bottom bar graph for colors. Weird. I have 3 previous calibrations to choose from and I don't get a valid report off of any of them.

Greetings,

Hey Joel, any idea when we can expect an update that will include Autocal for 2014 JVC projector line (meaning the RS 49, 4910, 57, 67, 6710) ?

Thanks as always! smile.gif

Regards,

I don't have any ETA from JVC on when we would be getting the sample units and the protocols they use.

Greetings,

I figured as much but thought I would check with you. I have already calibrated my RS4910 using my C6 but like the ease and quickness of autocal for touch ups. wink.gif

Thanks for the quick response Joel. smile.gif

Regards,

The calibration on the new JVC units compared to older ones eg RS60, have they improved? I had to buy a Lumagen as my RS60 is rubbish when it comes to calibrating.

Yes the RSx5 and RSx6 projectors have a much improved autocal implementation, but the projectors themselves are still a bit of a nightmare of interdependencies.

I have no information on the new ones.

I have just received my brand new JVC DLA-X500RWE projector, I own an X-Rite i1 Display Pro and have downloaded the AVS HD709 calibration disc. With this setup, what is the best price/quality option from the current Calman lineup?

Thanks for your help!

The RS232 Command Communication Specification document for the new JVC projectors is readily available.

Hope this helps!

Hello, in your case choose CalMAN 5 Control or Enthusiast, to have the upcoming capability of your JVC Projector AutoCAL when CalMAN support this in a future version.

I have an Ocean Optics USB4000-VIS-NIR spectrometer. Can it be used as a reference meter?

For profiling within CalMAN? Check the list of supported equipment on SpectraCAL's website. If it isn't there, the answer is no. If it has its own readout, you could use it to cross-check, but not to profile another meter in CalMAN.

CalMAN version 5.3.0 and later now require up-to-date maintenance at install
Added maintenance reminder to installer for license renewal.
Created “Cancel” option for installations with out of maintenance license keys
Added option to force installation for out of maintenance license keys. Note – You will be in evaluation mode if choosing this option.
As of CalMAN 5.3.0, Windows XP support has been dropped.

If I understand this correctly, even though a person may have originally bought a CalMAN 5 license, if that person has not paid for the yearly maintenance, then after a year the same software is not re-installable with that same license usage level?

If that is the casse, then, to say it as tactfully as I can.... quite the proprietary thought process there.
