Panasonic 61"

I have a chance to buy a Panasonic 61" DTV ready projection TV for 900 bucks. It's four months old. It seems like a great deal.

But, a friend says watching letterbox movies "burns" the screen above and below the picture. Is this right? Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
