upgrading from Mitsu HC3000U: Epson 3010? 5010?

I am redoing my HT setup for my new house. I know that the Epson has 3d and 1080, but will I really get that noticeable of a PQ upgrade from the epson coming from the Mits?

that said, shoudl the 5010 also be considered? I'm sure there are countless threads about the 3010 vs the 5010, but does the upgrade in contrast justify the $1k+ difference?

the room I'm using is fairly large...most of the time will be for BR discs, others for moderate lighting such as sports and other daytime stuff.

thanks, all. Capture2.JPG 52k .JPG file

As an owner of the hC3000 I would NEVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER consider an LCD to replace this projector.. But hey, I HATE LCD. I would be looking at DLP only but thats just me.. Good luck in whatever you choose.

what do I lose w/ LCD vs. DLP?

You gain the real possibility of miss convergence, you will most likely loose sharpness and true on off contrast ration then there is the issues of motion blur that is inherent in the LCD technology The LCD projector will also be about 3 or 4 times larger than your current unit. I would highly recommend you view at least one LCD projector in a similar environment before you switch technologies.

Do some searches in the forum of DLP vs LCD etc.. here is an interesting post http://www.avsforum.com/t/1423239/am-i-just-unlucky-epson-5010/0_60 to give you the warm and fuzzies..

Take a look at Coders comparison thread http://www.avsforum.com/t/1391476/coderguys-top-projector-picks/0_60

I am not saying don't do it, just know what you are getting before you invest or at least make sure there is a return policy where you buy.
Good luck!

No problem, and let me know what you end up with as my HDMI port is on it's way out from 2500 hours of plugging and unplugging every night.. table mount and all

well, looks like I might pull the trigger on the Benq w7000. do you think the 2d PQ will be noticeably better than my 300U?
