Lg pa70g or Acer k330?

Not sure how many own both, though I did order the PA70, but my Fry's order is still processing. I currently own the K330. If the order goes through, I'd be happy to do a comparo.

Monakh, when you get the LG projector set up:
Some others have reported a push towards blue color on PA70G that cannot be adjusted out.. Please comment on this in your "comparo."
Also LG claims a higher contrast ratio. Any difference noted there?

Blue push means color temperature is cold. I hope to compare both in Cinema mode because color temperature would be warm

I am not sure what's up with Fry's since my order is still processing but I'd be happy to oblige if/when I finally get it. I started with the venerable LG HS102, then progressed steadily with an HS201 and flirted for a year with the Epson 705HD (bulb) PJ and am now on the K330.


I like it quite a bit though not as much as I liked my HS201. It's plenty bright for my needs. I live in the harsh Middle East where the sun is bright and the desert is everywhere. I don't have a light-controlled room as there is some ambient light from some windows above the staircase which I have not bothered covering with blinds. It is noticeably brighter than any other LED PJ I have owned though obviously doesn't compare with the light cannon Epson 705HD. I think if you are in a completely dark room, you should expect a very good picture. I am no videophile though so if you are one of those folks who fret over diamond pixels, then you will have a problem here. One glaring issue, though it doesn't bother me enough to kick the PJ, is the lack of focus on the K330, I just can't ever seem to get it right! People claim that it becomes easier as the PJ warms up but this hasn't been my experience. This issue becomes more pronounced if you are using a PC to feed the PJ. I have mine hooked up to a Roku, a Boxee Box, a PC, a Wii and two Satellite receivers (one with 1080i feeds). SD picture is decent on the K330 though it was much better on the LG units. Another minor issue is that the PJ will sometimes shut off randomly, without warning, and you are left scratching your head and thinking WTF? However, removing the power cable and sticking it back in and turning it on fixes the problem. I hope this is not indicative of impending failure! Anyway, I think the K330 was worth the $500 or so I paid for it.

Well, Fry's shipped it but never bothered to give me the tracking number. Anyway, it's now being forwarded to me in the Middle East, I should have it Monday.

Changing inputs on the K330 is a real drag, I don't know if it is the bloody HDCP handshake for HDMI or what, but it takes a while (3-5 seconds) before the video comes on. Very annoying.

Looks video sharp from the photo's and the color saturation has alot of warmth and depth to the image.
What size screen and what gain is being used? Thanks for the pics!

It would nice to see a Q5 and PA70 comparion shot to the Q3 after all how much better is it.

which of the projectors do you prefer for photo presentation for example? The lg or the acer?

which one has more light output?

my opinion is although QUmi Q5 has some issues, it is still miles ahead of LG PA70G in term of sharpness and color accuracy

I'm searching for a friend a portable led projetor for photo presentation, so it should have a good lightoutput, best possible for led, acceptable colours and sharpness ...

...well, all in the limits of this category.

P.S.: looked at the qumi q5, this thing is so tiny, that I don't belive it will produce anything near 500lumen, its maybe 150.

Miles really? I didn't even look at the q5 after I read it may have some video processing issues playing games.

Guess I'll go take a look.

Seems like the biggest issue with these small projectors is also the most basic, focus of the image.

Ok, let's compare the LG PA70G to the Acer k330!

The LG Pa70 G has 2 year warranty and the K330 has one year warranty!

The 70G has 30,000 hours life and k330 has 20,000 hours life.

The 70g is 700 lumens and the k330 has 500 lumens.

the 70g has 15,000:1 contrast ratio and the k330 has 4,000:1 contrast ratio

the 70g has 2 3 watt stereo speakers that are amazing and the k330 has 2 watt mono speaker.

the 70g doesn't suffer from start up focus issue and the k330 takes around 15 mins to get in focus.

the 70g has been on sale for 399 and the k330 can be bought for 449 on newegg at the moment.

If someone got a unfocused LG 70g unit, send it back and get it fixed under warranty.

My 70g is in focus across the whole image top to bottom, left to right, and I can surf the web no problems with it, I do use bigger fonts , but I do this on all my hdtv's too. So if you use very tiny fonts, It might not work for you.

I think both units can view pdf's and text files and play mp3 and avi's with built in media center using usb stick/or hard drive. I'm not sure how they both compare on that stuff. And I don't know how they compare on the 3D stuff. Maybe others can share about that.

I'm thinking from just price and warranty and lumens and contrast ratio, and built in stereo speakers .... the 70G seems like better deal. What do you guys think?

Rgtaa, because of posts like yours I bought PA70G. One day after running to the store
where I replaced it with a brand new Acer K330. I am now the proud owner of
2xAcer K330

Paper specifications PA70G look really impressive, but in real life
is not quite right. To me, the comparison looks like this:

- in my country, LG and Acer have the same guarantee - 2 years
- 15000:1 contrast means almost totally black. LG PA70G contrast is not even close to 15000:1. My personal observation is that Acer K330 has better contrast.
- PA70G K330 and use the same LED backlight - RGB LED, PT54 (Luminus), and her life is hardly different in the two models.
20,000 to 30,000 hours, approximately
- even 3W speakers are not sufficient for sound quality, I personally have a 200W THX
- For LG PA70G none professional review, only impressions to users who are rarely objective.
- For Acer K330 has many professional reviews and most are very positive.

After my comparison of the two models I would recommend highly Acer K330, not PA70G.
I'm totally objective because I had two models on the table and simply chose the best (Acer K330)

If you asked me after playing with the PA70G for 3 hours after I got it , I would have had to agreed with you 100 percent!

But I gave it a second chance the next day, and found out why I had a bad first impression.

I didn't know about the calibration settings and all the screens it shows and asks you "which picture looks better" , this or the other. 6 or 7 menu screens with options.
Also, when I set my 42 inch hdtv , next to the PA70G , and watched the exact same TV show, second for second, THEN doing advanced settings, made the picture on the 70g as good as or even better than the 42 inch hdtv. Without doing that, I had the PA70G set up all wrong, I had no reference to set it up with.
My build date was nov 2012, and I do have uniform focus top to bottom, left to right. If I didn't I would have returned it, like you did.
Now the 6 watts of speakers in stereo (3x2) is very powerful for small unit, meaning I can take a 32 gig memory stick with me and just the PJ and it can play all my media, and pdf's .
Since you have 2 year warranty in europe, it's not that way in USA. So the extra year in USA of LG is good for me.
You like the Acer K330 and I hope you enjoy it.
I hope we get some PRO reviews on the 70g, it's so NEW, I guess it will take time.
Maybe it's a good thing, because early production of 70g had focus problems.

Why delete all your posts where you say you like something on Acer K330? Are you afraid that would harm the reputation of LG?
Are you working on LG?

I prefer PB60G to compare with K330,500 LUMENS is the same brightness in both projectors.

PB60G in Screen 106" and MKV 1080p

All other issues aside, for just gaming does one have an advantage over the other. Game lag, response, etc.
Skyrim looks nice on the k330.

i am going to buy next week either acer k330 or lg pa70g. To be honest I have read so many controversial reviews for both. So far I can understand that both have same image quality, or not?

I am mostly concerned about fan noice and focus issues. What is your conclusions?

I did months of research and went with the LG PA70G and have no focusing issues. I just need to decide what screen size.
