Hello my dear 3Ders! Here is one confused newbie on the 3d realm! I need help.

I bought a TV LG 47LW5700. Passive 3D. I understand that 3D formats can be side by side, top/bottom, checker board and frame sequencial. I see those selections when I manually switch from 2d to 3d.

What I don't understand is, when I am playing a PS3 3D game for example, it automatically switches to 3D, what format is it using? Is it one of the above or is it something totally different? Same when I play blueray 3d? Which one does it use?

I ask because I am trying to get my PC to work with my TV! I got cyberlink powerdvd 12 and the cyberlink advisor and it passes all except the TV. It fails the TV 3D. IT doesnt' detect or something. So when I launch powerdvd 12 ultra, I think I have to manually set the display and source types and I am not sure what to select for my LG tv.

in the power DVD, there are options:

3D Ready HDTV - (Checkerboard)
Micro-polarizer LCD 3d (LCD Interleaved)
120Mhz time sequential 3d LCD
HDMI 1.4 Enabled 3d tv. (1080P, 24hz)
HDMI 1.4 Enabled 3d tv. (720pP, 60hz)
HDMI 1.4 Enabled 3d tv. (720pP, 50hz)

Now, I know I am not HDMI 1.4. I am using 1.3 HDMI cables, and it works fine on my PS3. I have no idea and coudln't find anywhere in the manual what the LG 47LW5700 is? Is it micro-polarized? Or 120Mhz time sequential 3d LCD?? If it supports both, which one is superior? Which one matches the blue-ray 3d like Lorax 3d Blueray?

NOTe that I tried the 120 time sequencial and cyberlink said content or device doesn't support!

Thanks a lot for any explantion or help. If only the TV is detected as 3d, problems would be solved...

I have ATI Radeon HD 4670 BTW, which cyberlink advisor says passes 3d. I am assuming HDMI 1,.4 is not a requirement as my PS3 plays 3d without any problem using 1.3!

The one format you did not list is the 3D Org standard dual 1080p frame packed format which is used by 3D disk players and PS3 players. The current 3D TVs such as yours will automatically switch to this format when detected. It uses 1920x2205 buffers instead of 1/2 R1080p buffers which are used by many of the other HDMI 1.4a formats used by cable and satelite companies.

ahaa... That is exactly what I was looking for... It doesn't show this format in the list when trying to select a manual 3d mode... it looks like it's only selected as you said when detected from a player. So it looks like Cyberlink is not using this mode becaise it's not detecting a 3D tv, correct? Maybe cause on the PC it required the HDMI 1.4! while PS3 can do it on 1.3.

Am I makign sense? Anyone has powerDVD working on HDMI 1.3 with auto detection?

so, I do have a high speed HDMI cable, which means it should support 3d.

My ATI card, ATI Radeon HD 4670 seems to support 1.4...

so that means there should be no reason why I coudln't use the 1080P 1.4. Card support, TV is 3d and HDMI is high speed! Why wouldn't it work!! Even if I manually select it from the list, it doesn't like it.

Yes. If that doesn't work, select "Micro-polarizer LCD 3d (LCD Interleaved)" and toggle through the TV settings (top and bottom, side by side) until it matches up.

Dual 1080p frame packed buffers in the 3D standard 1920x2025/24 buffer can be tranmitted by either a 1.3 or a 1.4 HDMI transmitter chip as demonstrated by the 3D BR players and by a PS3 player.
Which release and which version of PowerDVD do you have? I ask because all releases and versionsf power DVD do not support output ot the 3D dual buffer standard format

As long as the 3D BD player has a 2X speed BD drive, which is why the PS3 can use HDMI 1.3 (it comes standard with a 2X speed BD drive) while regular 1.3 equipped BD players can't (and cannot be upgraded to 3D BD capabilities). When 3D and HDMI 1.4 were introduced to 3D BD SAL players, so was the 2X speed drive.

I meant to say that a PC with HDMI 1.3 transmitter chip can send packed double buffer 3D format as well as a PS3 can. The 3D bluray players allready have 1.4 transmitter chips.

And again, it's more than just the HDMI TX chips. Without the 2X speed drive - no 3D BD.
