Buying advice: BR+HDD+Streaming+Network

Hi to everyone,

I searched all the forum and I could not find a specific thread which discussed this problem: I need a good quality device that can preform 3 functions:
1. BR/DVD player that handles lots of different formats,
2. HDD (possibly standalone ********** enabled) for media recording & Sharing with all TV/Projectors/PC in my home,
3. Network enabled for sharing and streaming Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Direct and Vudu (in this order).

I own an Oppo93 (modded BR/DVD Region Free) and does almost everything except HDD Recording and sharing and is not compatible with Hulu and Amazon Direct.

Thanks in Advance!

Only a home theater personal computer would be able to accomplish all of your goals.

I apologize for mentioning smtg that had to be censored. I will be more careful in future.
Thanks for advising me PCHT... in fact I do have a spare desktop with Pentium 3 and 1GB ram.
Is that any where near sufficient to work smoothly in the HTPC scenario?

Probably not for playback of HD content. I also have an old P3/1GB that I turned into a media-PC. It is quite adequate for recording from a PC tuner, acting as a TiVo server and sharing media to my streamers. But it doesn't have the horsepower for playing back BD rips; it does OK on DVD but nothing to write home about.

You could configure it and use it in combination with your Oppo and be very happy.

Might soon "decommission" my Sony Vaio laptop. Core duo 2.0GHz and 2GB ram with NVidia graphic. SZ1VP
