Just finished watching this, I know the story is not everyones cup of tea but I have to admit I enjoyed it for what it was. The AQ was awesome as well as the PQ. Definitely better than the last two alien invasion type of films Ive seen ( The Darkest Hour and Skyline ).

Huh. Didn't know y'all were getting that on BD this week, Franin (turns out we're getting it in three weeks in NA)...I may have to watch out for a sale for this one.

Cool, this looks like a fun rental for the AV then. Nothing wrong with that. smile.gif

Watched this one tonight. There's a lot wrong with this movie from the ground up - nonsensical plot, mediocre acting from just about everyone involved, most of which look like they're waiting for their paycheck to clear so they can bail out on the production, cribbed ideas from other similar flicks and of course, the whole awkwardly shoehorned "Battleship" game thing into some sort of plot gimmick for the movie to justify the franchise it's representing.

What holds this flick together and in fact makes for one of the very best looking and sounding Blu-ray releases of 2012 at least on a technical level is the fetishistic (did I just make up a word?) level of special effects that focus on cool super detailed space gizmos chomping up and blowing up naval ships and cities. It's like there was so much thought and craft involved in making the hardware look good with beautifully composed and executed shots, it reveals how stupid and lazily conceived the (space) hardware actually is. I mean, you have the main alien battleships leap frogging across the ocean like handicapped dolphins. And the aliens themselves are basically unimaginative rip-offs of the Halo game fighters. While it really seem like Michael Bay light, It's very much like the Transformer movies - the Blu-ray presentation looks and sounds fabulous but the actual movie could quite possibly subliminally kill braincells.

One thing I forgot to mention, there's a trailer on Battleship for the new E.T. blu-ray release and the quality of the clips look pretty good although I suspect Universal may be laying on the DNR a bit too much.

I have no idea why, the Laserpacific transfer is fine

I'm embarassed to say I enjoyed this one more than Prometheus. Probably because I had such extraordinarily low expectations for this, and such high ones for Prometheus...

It's available on iTunes as well. Not that I want to compare but I've rented the HD version which I'll watch tonight, if I like the "spectacle" I might even buy it on Blu-ray.

I have to say this is a rental if you haven't seen it.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The movie it self has a lot wrong with it. First off the Aliens seem to never attack unless they are attacked on which makes the Aliens look like the good guys and Navy look like ass. Second to string a long the plot the aliens communication ship get destroyed on entering the atmosphere by a satellite. You would think the aliens have a good tech for reentry on a planet. Then the whole plot is for the aliens to rebuild there communication . They Copied Independence day with the mind reading.
I could go on more with the issues.

Did I enjoy it hmmm... so so While i liked the fx everything felt tacked on from other movies, like a bad mix of transformers, ID4, Armageddon etc. I will not revisiting this movie as it is forgettable for me.

I did that with hunger games I went in with too high expectations and came out dissapointed.

Maybe I'll check the Blu-ray for the lossless sound and the extras but the iTunes HD version was enough, the movie is simply kinda bad... It's really disappointing to see a film like this with great CGI action and stuff, I'm not even sure the premise makes sense in the first place (what are they gonna do next, Monopoly in 3D?...) but I'm a sucker for everything sea/ships/navy related, even the dumbest, and this one is certainly one of them! And of course Rihanna is as deplorable as an actress as she is as a singer Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I kept hoping her character would not survive the "events" but no... wink.gif ...But at least they were smart enough to avoid the lame sequel bait at the end

Stinker that this may be it still got reference scores for PQ and AQ from Mr. Potts.

This is a Blu-ray to showcase your system but not your intellect.

We enjoyed this more than The Hunger Games. That was a snooze fest.
I found this movie an exciting comic adventure that was somehow enhanced by audience laughter at appropriate points.

Perhaps all Bluray titles should include a live recording from a cinema, as an optional soundtrack, to give it that "being there" experience.

Despite the hype, Hunger Games didn't do it for me either.

Watched it on DTV On Demand. Fantastic PQ & Audio. Very good special effects. No reason to waste time writing about the movie, it was ridiculous.

Come on guys. Watched tonight and had a blast with it. Great audio and video.

Who cares if the plot wasn't perfect. It was fun.

Scores bonus points for not being yet another super hero movie. Not sure how many more I can stand.

Was a Comcast download but will for sure be picking it up on disk.

Fun!!

Despite the Grade C actors cast as main characters, I really enjoyed this silly si-fi flick. I also liked the aliens and, of course, the special effects were great.
