I only have a SD directv box. Not much I can tell from this.

I am not sure I like the new 3 hour RAW. A little to much time.

well, all live events on HD looks great. games on ESPNHD, NFLHD, etc.....yeah 3hrs is kind of stretching it. i wonder how long this 3hrs thing is going to last? when MNF starts, i'll be watching RAW before the game starts and then going back and forth

Which is why it probably looks "great" to you. On a larger set stuff like compression artifacts, macro blocking, etc become VERY apparent especially on WWE programming.

Why isn't raw letterboxed on sd channel almost everything else on usa is? The wwe and usa bug are still in 4:3 safe area. On usa a few months ago they have put logo in the bottom right corner on usa hd. Does wwe tell usa they can't?

I'm assuming the WWE protects for 4:3 due to a good chunk of their audience still watching on 4:3 sets.

In addition, WWE is broadcast internationally in countries that don't broadcast in HD or 16:9. Hence, they will stay 4:3 safe for the duration.

They do put small graphics that can only be seen in the 16:9 area (usually hashtags).

That pretty much means it's going to be a long time before the WWE finally goes 16:9 friendly with their broadcasts.

Raw re-airs on Universal HD, and is shown in 16:9 there, so I will assume the WWE does shoot all their programming in widescreen, unless someone turns up information otherwise...
