Using an external sub with DefTech 8040 super towers?

Exactly how would I wire this up,since the towers have an LFE input for the built in subs. I also would like a recommendation on a receiver between a Denon 3312 and a Pioneer SC-61. Both of course are 7.2 but use different room correction programs. Seems most prefer Audessy because it does a better job on bass. Considering whatever receiver I pick will have two subwoofer outputs,is it feasible and a good idea to put a splitter on one output and run two sub cables, one to each tower from that splitter. Then run another sub cable from the other sub output to my PB-12NSD ?

That's an understatement. MCACC room correction software on the Pioneer doesn't have any EQ filters for the sub channel at all, and subs can really use EQ help in most rooms.

Well that narrows down the receiver issue. How about running an external sub with powered towers? If I connected the 8040ST towers to the L/R speaker outputs, connected the SVS to the LFE output, put the mains on small, set the receiver cross over at say 50hz. Anyone see any glaring issues with that initial set up?
