AVS Platform Update: Mobile, Site Improvements, and More - Page 4

David,

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but do you think it might make sense to remove the modifier "High End" from Projectors $3000 and up? While there are plenty of projectors out there that are less than $3000, there are also lots of projectors that reside above $10,000 or even $20,000. To suggest that a $3000 or $5000 or $8000 projector is a "High End" projector does everyone a disservice...particularly those who look to the AVS Forum to educate themselves and think, as a practical matter, that if $3000 is considered "High End", then they really don't need to look much beyond that price range -- even if they have the means and perhaps the need for a higher cost solution. It seems to me that just listing the price ranges of the projector discussions without qualifying any of those ranges as "High" or "Ultra High" would be the sensible thing to do.

Really hoping for a release soon

Also patiently waiting, my tap-a-talk quit working AGAIN (after installing latest iOS)

Every time I come to the site I get a big message at the top saying I'm using AN OUTDATED BROWSER!

So I click on it to go get an updated browser but it sends me to a download for IE8.

Problem is I'm running IE9 (usually 9 is considered less outdated than 8 smile.gif )

Like the look of the new site.

Thanks,
Ken

My tapatalk stops working every few weeks. Logging out and then in again seems to work. Looking forward to the new avs site getting up and running. Not enjoying tapatalk at all.

Dingaling,

I am lucky to be one of the beta testers for the mobile version of the site. I have no idea how someone as "PC-challenged as myself got chosen - then again that might be why smile.gif
Regardless; I think you will find it to be a big improvement over having to use tap-a-talk...

@cuzed2: any hints about when it'll be ready for primetime? wink.gif

Sorry; that part is above my pay-grade smile.gif
However; it does not feel like they are many major issues. In my several hours of beating it up - seems like just minor items "convenience tweaking" ....

In that case, I say bring it on to the masses and we'll deal with the minor inconveniences over the major inconveniences with Tapatalk.... smile.gif

Sounds like the dubious claims of a self-admitted "PC-challenged" beta tester. cool.giftongue.gifbiggrin.gifwink.gif

Outstanding! Thanks. About to check it out now.

Very nice. Well worth the wait. I can now go to the last unread post in my subscribed threads on my iPhone again. Thank you AVS

After having checked it out, I gotta say I still miss ForumRunner, sorry. I'd rather pay for an app and not deal with ads.

Thank you very much for the new mobile site. Had a little trouble at first tonight, but now it seems to be all good. I have really missed the old app, thanks again for this new mobile platform for AVS smile.gif

Great timing guys. The latest Tapatalk HD update is a mess - AVS and other forums are practically unreadable.

Will spend some quality time with the mobile site later, but it looks good so far.

Two suggestions/functionality requests:

Can device gestures be added? It would be nice to be able to swipe from left to right to move back up the menu tree, particularly when exiting a thread and returning to the sub forum thread list

Can page navigation be added to the top of the thread screen? I know screen real estate is at a premium but it can take a lot of scrolling to get to the controls at the bottom of the page.

You may care to post in the Mobile Feedback area for suggestions etc...

http://www.avsforum.com/f/291/mobile-feedback

...as that is where things will be seen vs in this thread that was not meant for it.

Thanks David. I'll move it to the appropriate location.

David, spectacular work! Everybody did a great job with this.
Many thanks

For the past couple of days, I seem to keep getting logged out of the mobile site on my iPhone. I'm not doing anything different than before. Any ideas?

Hi...

Sounds like a cookie issue. Are you blocking cookies on your browser or removing them? That would be my best guess.

No - not blocking them and haven't cleared them in weeks. If I go a few hours without looking at the forum, when I go back on and refresh my subscription list it asks me to log in again. I even make sure not to manually close the safari app - before this would happen only if I manually closed safari. Now it happens regardless which is odd. I appreciate your help. Thanks. Love the HTML5 mobile by the way.

Thanks for the tip - much appreciated. Just logged off, went to desktop version and signed in. Now back to mobile version. Will now hope that fixes it. Thanks again.

Hi...I will report this for testing as it surely sounds like a bug.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Just to confirm, the problem seems to have gone away once I ran through the steps provided.
I accidentally manually closed the safari app, and that put me back in the same situation as before - the mobile site won't keep me logged in. So must be a bug of some sort.

Without an actual app, is there any way to get a homepage shortcut with an AVS icon on Android?
Bookmark it in the browser. Then add shortcut to the home screen (push and hold in an empty area on the screen until the option shows up). One of the shortcut choices is bookmark.
