Interesting projector found on Ebay - Does anyone know of a mainstream projector like this?

I realize this is NOT the projector vendor of choice.

It appears to be a high lumen LED light source/LCD projector.

With the Panasonic coming out in January, I wonder if this tech could be related.

Comments anyone?

I wondered if any mainstream projectors were using LED sources, LCD imaging, and 2000+ lumens for a price less than 1K.


I imagine if the basic technology is available in a knock-off, then some mainstream projector manufacturers may have optimized it into something that actually works.

Does that make more sense?

LED projectors are not anywhere near 2000+ lumens for under 1k. Most of them are under 600 lumens. Also, we are still stuck at 720p in that price range for LED. Even when LED's come down in price and the lower cost 1080p models hit the shelves, we are still going to be looking at sub-1000 lumen best modes (probably sub-500 mostly).

Heck, there aren't even really many standard home theater projectors that can do 2000+ lumens under $1k. There are a few but mostly crossover or 720p units, certainly none that do it in a best mode.

You'd be better off with a Viewsonic Pro8200, it can do around 1500+ lumens near best mode, technically about 1300 in a pure best mode.
The lamp lasts a VERY long time, I have 2000 hours on the lamp and I can still get 800+ lumens out of it. Get you a gain screen and pair it with a bright DLP, and you will be good to go and if lucky you may get 4000-6000 hours out of a lamp, or more. It is well under $1000, so you will have enough to buy a spare lamp as well, that means 5000-10,000+ hours for around $1,000.

Anybody can put whatever "specs" they want on their Chinese projector sold on eBay. There is no conspiracy theory here, there is no magic that mainstream projector companies haven't figured out yet.

That thing is a hunk of junk, and is probably significantly worse than the 500 lumen LED projectors out now. It's not even 1080P actually... they have it at 1280x800, so it's probably using a pico DLP chip like all the small LED units, which means probably less than 500 actual lumens.

Thanks, everyone.

I figured it was just a collection of outrageous claims. It would have been nice to learn of mainstream units coming out with similar specs. But I guess the tech just isn't there yet.

There's a new Panny coming out in Jan with 200+ lumens with a hybrid laser/led light source. I'm betting that one is way above $1500.00.
