Complete Newb needs help getting started

I apologize for my complete lack of knowledge on the subject but:

I recently moved into a new house and the previous owners left us a complete Bose HT set up in the den as well as Bose speakers in 2 other rooms and outside on the deck.

All of the speaker wiring comes into a cabinet in the den and appears to be attached to some sort of switcher.

Ideally, I would like to be able to be able to have one source playing on HT system if someone happens to be watching TV while a music source could be played thru the speakers in the other rooms and/or outside. Also, ideally, I would love to have some sort of wifi/bluetooth connectivity to be able to stream music from IPhone or Spotify, etc on my laptop.

Also, given that I am not an audiophile nor do I watch a lot of movies, "ideally" I dont want to drop a ton of coin on this project. The music to speakers outside and around the house is more important than the HT system so if it is significantly cheaper to go that route, I could forego the HT system and just sell those speakers.

Any suggestions on what I need since I dont even know where to start?

Thanks for the suggestion.

I definitely appreciate specific receiver suggestions but also any help with the technical terms of the specific features would be very helpful as well.

Since my ethernet wiring is upstairs, I guess I need either "Built-in Wifi" or the ability to connect a "Wifi Dongle" (same for Bluetooth).

If the receiver has wifi capabilities, what additional benefits does "Airplay" provide?

What is the tech term I need to look for in a receiver that will make it possible to play 2 different sources over speakers in 4 different areas of the house? I see "A/B speaker switching", "2 Zone", "Multi-Room", and "Multi-Zone" but not sure of the difference between all of those.

Generally only high end AVRs will include built-in WiFi capability, while others (eg. Onkyo) include the ability to connect a WiFi dongle. There are however, other ways to connect to a wireless router when a direct wired connection is not possible. Refer to the following info (which although written for Denon AVRs applies to any brand AVR as well).

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1334369/the-official-denon-avr-xx12-model-owners-thread/0_100#user_G2

Regarding zones, you want to be looking for either an AVR with Zone 2 (or Zones 2/3) capability depending on whether you just want the same independent audio to "all" of the speakers in each of the additional rooms and deck (Zone 2) or want a 3rd independent source available to the deck (Zone 3). You'll also want an AVR with Zone 2 pre-outs to connect to a 2CH amp to power the additional 6 speakers which would likely be connected to a multi zone impedance matching speaker selector which in turn would be connected to the 3 sets of additional speakers. The Marantz 6006 recommended above has both Zone 2/3 pre-outs, however, is likely more AVR than you need if you don't need independent audio to 3 separate zones. If not, consider the Marantz 5006 and Denon 2112CI both on clearance to make room for the newer 5007 and 2113CI models. You can review the features of the various XX12 and XX13 Denon models by clicking on the Owner's threads linked in my sig.

Also note, that most any 3rd party Bluetooth adapter can be purchased and connected to an AVR to provide Bluetooth capability.
