Joss Whedon has signed on to write and direct the sequel to his summer tentpole flick, The Avengers.
But that’s not all. Marvel Studios announced Tuesday that Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with the studio for film and television through the end of June 2015. In addition to Avengers 2, Whedon will help develop a new live-action series for Marvel Television at ABC. The studio says Whedon will “also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.”
Just after The Avengers passed the $1 billion milestone, Whedon told Hero Complex that he was apprehensive. “It’s an enormous amount of work telling what is ultimately somebody else’s story, even though I feel like I did get to put myself into it,” he told the Los Angeles Times blog. “But at the same time, I have a bunch of ideas, and they all seem really cool.”
...the Marvel pipeline is already stacked with much-anticipated films like Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. All of those flicks will hit theaters before we see an Avengers sequel on the silver screen.
