Two 10" paradigm subs? OR one 12" paradigm sub

You can do a lot better than Paradigm subs for your money. Two is usually better than one but 10" subs aren't going to dig very deep or with authority. At the least, I would do dual 12" ers from the likes of HSU, Rhythmik, Epic, SVS or Outlaw.

Subs don't have to match. That is primarily a center channel thing. If you really like the subs and they perform to your satisfaction then I would get them. However, if you have the opportunity, I would listen to some others to give you an ideaof how they stack up against the competition. But by all means avoid Polk subs except for the PSW505. All the rest are really bad.

I am running two of the new sub 10`s. They do sound pretty good but for the money I spent I am sure I could of done a lot better.

Beware, subs are a sonic drug. Two 10" subs equal one 12" sub. But one 12" sub equals unbalanced sound. Now you need two 12" subs to have balanced sound. And then you come to realize that two 12" subs equal one 15" sub and one 15" sub equals unbalanced sound. So, if you can, build to a minimum pair of 15" subs and consider yourself a bass addict. And don't even think of slowing down enough to let the THX bug bite you in the behind as now you're into separate pre/pros and amplifiers.

(Oh crap, there's another three grand I don't need. I should have bought a bass boat.)



(Currently addicted to two 12" subs, looking to upgrade to a pair of 15" subs.)

Right now, the upgrade choices before me are, 15" Rythmik, Epik or Hsu with the edge going to Rythmik SE 15" but loving the Rosenut veneer of the Hsu's.

Assuming the tens go as low as the twelve two tens are better, as it allows placing them in different spots to smooth out room modes.

Dang those bass loading corners.

Corner loading is your friend. It's walls that cause problems.

You're right. I was thinking of ceiling corners as opposed to wall corners. Sorry for the misspeak.

The Bass is a lot smoother with two subs. I have mine sitting on subdudes also & they sound good like I said. I went with Paradigm because those are the rest of my speakers. I knew the subs did not have to match. But I could have gotten two different brand subs for quite a bit less $$.

They don't cause problems in the frequencies where most subs operate either. Mid-bass (100 to 180Hz, give or take), yes. For that reason what are commonly labeled as bass traps more properly should be called mid-bass traps.

Not arguing, my old school vs new school learning teaches me of bass traps and ceiling corners being the general trouble makers. With today's bass management, anything from 120Hz and down is considered a complainant.

(And I should add, flat ceiling corners as opposed to diagonal cathedral ceiling corners where angular deflection occurs.)

One must see sound waves in the likes of liquid and pebbles dropping on the mirrored surface of a lake.
