Gamma and Disney WOW disc

Hi everybody,

(my first post smile.gif)

I've been reading this forum for a while since getting a Panasonic bdt500 blu ray recently. I think I may have fallen down the rabbit hole of calibration just a bit. So I downloaded the avs calibration disc and also got the Disney WOW disc yesterday. My question is about the gamma setting on my Samsung LCD.
Currently I have it at 0 out of a possible adjustment range of -3 to +3. When looking at the gamma resonse test pattern on the WOW disc, I see that the gamma is around 1.8. If I adjust the gamma down to -3, it comes out to be around the 2.1 mark. I know this isn't the most accurate way to check gamma, but would it be better to leave it neutral or adjust it closer to 2.2 and readjust the other calibration settings again? Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me a response.

There is a thread for the WOW disc here in the calibration forum. There were a couple of posts about this pattern recently by members who calibrate their displays with meters. They have calibrated to 2.2 gamma, yet this pattern shows 1.8 gamma for them. While I didn't chime in there, I see the same thing on my set calibrated to 2.2 gamma.

So, the zero setting may be closest to 2.2 gamma.

I would post a link, but I'm using this crippled tapatalk app on my phone, and can't do a search.

Thanks.

That makes me fell pretty good about my settings. It's funny how after someone tells you about a thread, you can find it in the search, but never found it before that.

I think it was 1.9, but I can't remember for sure. In any case, this pattern is not effective for accurately setting gamma. The default gamma setting should be used in this case.
