I have an HP 2TB external hard drive, which has begun making repeated, clicking noises starting a few minutes after connecting to the pc. Research online says the the drive is on the way to failing. But a couple of suggestions said to check the cables. Plugging the drive in without the usb cable connected to either the drive or pc, the noise doesn't start. Plugging the cable into the pc, and it begins. This (hopefully) means the cable is now faulty, and a replacement may solve the problem.
But I can't for the life of me find the actual name of the cable. I've Googled USB data cables, but the kind that are showing up don't match the connector end that goes into the back of the drive. Or are smaller in size, made for cell phones.
So, can anyone give me the name of this specific USB cable? Thank you.
