Receiver for Bose Acoustimass 10

I recently moved into a new house, and the previous owner left a Bose Acoustimass 10 speaker system. The lady never purchased a receiver for it, so I'll need to pick one up. No offense here, but I'm not really posting this to hear about the terribleness of Bose. It was free, and completely unused. However, I cannot take it back, and I'm not interested in going through the hassle of selling it at this point in time.

The house is wired for surround sound, and there are a couple of speakers on the back porch (which I'm pretty sure I'll need to replace. I would like a receiver I can use for the Acoustimass and to play music through those speakers outside. So I think I need one that has two zones, correct?

I know next to nothing about receivers, so I'd greatly appreciate any advice.

Pretty much any A/V receiver will work with the Bose AM-10, how much are you willing to spend? Did they leave you the bass module too?

And what devices will you be connecting to this new receiver?

Thank you very much for your response. Yes, she did leave me the base module. It was actually completely unopened. I will be connecting the acousitmass, of course, and also a directv receiver, and a playstation 3.

I'd like to keep it under $400 if I can. I definitely want to be able to use my outside speakers as well.

I've been looking, and I'm considering the Yamaha RX-V671. Would that be a solid choice, or is there something else I should be looking at? The only concern I've seen with that receiver, is that I have Directv.

One thing to consider in your choice is that AVRs featuring Audyssey (except 2EQ) are often recommended over non Audyssey lower level models as they can EQ the subwoofer while non Audyssey models (eg. YPAO) cannot EQ the subwoofer. However, with the Bose Accoustimass module, the AVR does not detect a sub in the setup and will instead see it only as a 5.0 setup so it's a moot point. Regarding the DTV box, lots of cable/sat boxes have HDMI handshake issues with all brands of AVRs ... the workaround is to simply connect the cable/sat box (HDMI) directly to the TV with optical to the AVR.

So, for my purposes, it wouldn't likely matter whether or not I had Audyssey or YPAO? Do you have any suggestions on receivers? Your comments are much appreciated, as I'm in a little over my head with receivers.

Yamaha generally has a good rep so the model you are considering should work well for you.

I have a feeling this is an exceptionally stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. Doing that would eliminate the receivers ability to upscale to 1080p, correct?

Correct. However, note that there are 3 devices that can do the upscaling ... the source (DTV upscales to 1080i), the AVR (upscales to 1080p) and the TV (upscales to 1080p). More than likely there's no noticable difference between the 1080i from the DTV and if it was upscaled to 1080p by either the AVR or the TV, although regardless, it's very doubtful the AVR would do a better job than the TV.

Thank you. You have been extremely helpful. Even preemptively, as I just found out that my TV doesn't support ARC, so I'll automatically need to use the work around you suggested.

I actually was going to order it from Amazon, but I called my local HH Gregg and they price matched it, so I purchased it from there. I thought it was a solid deal as well.
