Netflix only available w/ Gold Membership?

I promise I'll stop with the newbie threads soon. My daughter wants to take the Xbox to college and use it to access Netflix, but it appears that you must purchase the Xbox Live Gold membership to do so. Is there any other option? If not, I'll just keep the machine at home and she'll continue using her laptop for Netflix. Thanks.

haha. i pretty much figured you'd be keeping the xbox anyway. tongue.gif

yeah, you need the gold membership to have Netflix. but that gold membership does get you a lot and it's only $35-40/year. but if you're the type to barely turn on a game system, it's not worth it.

I'm so sad my daughter won't be taking it. wink.gif

When I set up the machine, the offer was $59.99 for a year's membership. Whether it's $35 or $60, she or I won't be using the additional features, and I'm not going to pay anything when she can get Netflix free on her laptop.

Thanks for the confirmation.

don't forget that your first month of a new Xbox Live account is automatically Gold. so for that month, enjoy Netflix! biggrin.gif Afterwards, the Xbox Live account will convert from Xbox Live Gold to Xbox Live Free.
