Infocus X-10 shutdown then lock-up

I know the Infocus X-10 is pretty old by today's standards, but that's what I'm using. I was wondering if anybody that owned one had ever run into this situation where the projector bulb would be fine, bright in fact, with only 486 hours on it and suddenly the unit shuts down and locks up where I can't restart it? Unplugging the unit and replugging it in allows me to restart the projector but again, after less than 2 minutes it shuts down. I installed the original old bulb and it works fine, just a dim picture. I installed a lousy, fake bulb (just like the original they said) and it works but it's a terrible picture.

I took the bulb out, cleaned the mesh screen and tried again and it still shuts down after a minute or two. The image would take a while to get nice and bright then suddenly when it's at full strength the projector shuts down. I tried changing the bulb housing to the old OEM unit but that didn't do anything, of course. It's irritating that after less than a year (it's only a few days before it's a year old) the bulb doesn't allow the projector to work properly. Any ideas?

If anyone is interested, I ended up finding out the "lockup" was actually the change bulb light coming on. I didn't see the light because it was hidden.

I had the lousy comparable OEM bulb assembly with the hot spot on one end and darkness at the other side. The display would start breaking up, especially the reds and speckles would form. It was an outright terrible light. However, an interesting thing happened when i took the bulb out of the assembly and put it into the OEM assembly. The picture looked almost perfect with just a hint of a hot spot. The picture was bright and pretty even and the colors seemed fine. So, I guess I won't need to spend $400on a new bulb assembly after all. Yay.
