Help me decide on some new Surround speakers AVS!

I currently have two EMP E5-TiB towers as well as a E5Ci (pretty sure it is the E5 and not the E56). They are currently being powered by a Onkyo HT-RC160. The surround speakers I have been using for the last ~10 years are some pretty horribad little Aiwa surround speakers. I have decided that it is time to finally replace them since I have some extra cash (~400).

Currently the layout of the room has the left surround ~10 feet from the 'center' listening position at a 90degree angle, and the right is ~8feet at ~85degree position. They are hanging on the walls at ear level, and unfortunately do to windows and a doorway can't really be moved too much.

With this information in mind what would everyone suggest for new surrounds? The only real requirement I have is they have to be wall mountable and under $400 for a pair. If anyone needs more information for a better recommendation please ask away.

thanks for the options I will have to go and take a peak at them. Rick would you recommend any one over the others of the 3 you mentioned?

Why not wall mounted EmpTek surrounds that match your fronts?

I had thought about those, but wasn't sure if there was a better option. I also wasn't sure if the current placement of my surrounds would be okay with those (I admit I am not all that speaker smart ><) since they had the double facing.

I've never heard any NHT speakers, just always been intrigued by them (and they are well regarded here).

I use to have KEF 2001 as my rears; when I upgraded to iQ1 they became my office speakers.

I use to have PM800 in my livingroom; they've been replced by Salk WOW1s biggrin.gif

I should try the PM800 in my office to compare. When I do, I'll get back to you here.

All are quality speakers. You could probably give in to WAF and let your wife choose on looks.

Get the emp tek surrounds,I think there is not better option, beside that the others surrounds will be a alright option.

with other surrounds timbre can be distracting when the sound pan from front to back.

One last question before I make the final decision on the EMPs.

My living room is really one giant room with the living room/kitchen/dining room all in one. The living room portion takes up ~2/3rds of the room, with a half-wall separating the kitchen. With the design of the EMPs and the placement of them, one of the faces would be firing towards the TV and the other would be firing into the kitchen area. Wouldn't that mess up the sound I should be getting from them? When I get my rear surrounds to make my system a 7.x instead of a 5.x I am definitely looking at the EMPs. Until then though I am just worried I wouldn't be getting the proper effects from them due to my layout.

When my wife saw the options she liked the look of the DefTech ProMonitor 800. I think we all know that means that is 'proper' choice, unless I have a convincing argument otherwise.
