Strange DVD rip playback issue from Windows 8 Storage Space share

I have a PC running the Windows 8 release preview. I am attempting to play back a ripped DVD (VIDEO_TS folder from DVDFab) via Windows Media Player on a networked Windows 7 PC and am getting some strange behavior:

1) I ripped the DVD to a share in a "Storage Space" (3-drive with parity) and when I try to play it back on the Win 7 PC I just get a blank screen.

2) I copied the same rip from the Storage Space to a share on the Windows 8 boot drive and it plays back fine on the Win 7 PC.

3) I converted the same rip to MKV and placed it on the same Storage Space share and it plays back fine as well.

Anyone have any idea why I am having trouble playing the rip from the Storage Space share? It doesn't seem corrupted and the share seems to be set up properly. Thanks for any help.

Map a drive to the Storage Space share and see if you still face the problem.

Thanks for the idea but unfortunately I have the same problem with the mapped drive.

I hope you're only testing storage spaces and aren't planning on putting all of your media there on a preview. You do understand the drawbacks of storage spaces, right?

I did read about the drawbacks at this blog post and they are acceptable to me as long as there is no catastrophic data loss. I am just testing now and do plan to wait until the release to put all my movie rips on there but with this strange playback/sharing problem it is not a good start...
