When she took those punches did they cheer? I agree though she was bad, but then pretty much everyone else was too.

The quality of Hollywood produced "popcorn flicks" is just sinking to all time lows. IMHO, of course.
Agreed I consider ID4 a "masterpiece" now.wink.gif

For those that dislike handheld camera work, rent this movie before you purchase. There is so much motion that some may need dramamine to watch this movie. The CGI was just as bad. Normally I would have ejected this after several minutes but I watched till the end. IMO, a total waste of time.

The LFE were nowhere near what they should have been for such a movie.

I'm from Australia and I can say without a doubt the bass in this movie is incredible on the local Bluray. I heard that the US disc was lacking LFE but i watched this last week and the bass is huge and powerful almost equaling Underworld-Awakening is some parts. The guns at the end are incredible. Not lacking in LFE at all from what I heard. Amazing

+1 thought LFE wasn't enough either. But i did enjoy the action and high dynamics.

I borrowed the DVD from a friend, there is some damn good bass in it. Movie wasn't great, but was way better than many of the nay-sayers on here lead me to believe.

I want to watch the BD, but am not going to pay for it since the low bass is lacking (reported to be). The DVD picture quality just isn't up to snuff.

Thanks again for the review, Ralph! cool.gif

I found some of the dialogue and scripting to be rather weak in nature, but the audio and video presented were quite strong as you've indicated in your review. Some of the CGI work was fairly weak as well.

Still, it was a fun watch and I'll be spending time with this one again in the future.

I just finished watching tonight, better movie than I would have thought with some of the negative comments here. I agree Ralph, the audio and video quality was first rate! The LFE was pretty strong on my rental copy being DTS-HD-MA recorded. All in all, very entertaining, great action and just the right amount of fromage. It's not oscar material for acting, to say the least, but special effects? Just a fun, fist pumping, popcorn flick!

This movie had no business being over 2 hours. Why do studio's insist that a movie needs to be that long?

Take out the first 20 minutes and much of the stupid romance story (sorry but the girl is a horrible actress) and make the movie 90 minutes of action.
So many movies can't decide what they want to be. An action movie? A romance? A comedy? Sci-Fi? They try to please too many segments and end up pleasing no one.

This should have a been a straight up action film with maybe 5 minutes of romance tops.

I wish I could legally edit this movie to 90 minutes and it would be a pretty decent film.

And why are they trying to develop over a dozen characters? Just have 2 or 3 characters and focus on them.

Did anybody get the part of the movie when the Japanese captain asked to use the ocean buoy system and grid to locate the alien ships? LOL! The Japanese captain was calling out grid locations like J24 and L15. LOL! How the director integrated the Battleship game into the movie was epic. I might have to break out my game and play my wife. biggrin.gif

The movie was inspired by the classic board game. Regardless I still enjoyed it and know its part of my collection smile.gif

Watched this with my son last night. We really enjoyed it, overall the soundtrack alone made this a good purchase.

No doubt about this movie's sound, but the story is still not so good.

I finally got around to seeing this last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree the low end was anemic and that was disappointing but , for what it was, I was thoroughly entertained. I also thought Rhianna did a fine job. They didn't give her much but I don't see why people thought she was so bad. There was a lot worse acting in the movie. The use of actual Veterans gave me goose bumps and was just great. I think I will end up buying in spite of the bass snafus.

I've started to watch this and got through about the first 40 minutes or so. It looks decent enough so far that I'll keep it around so that the rest of my family will watch it on movie night.

The takes on that horrendous 20 minute stretch near the beginning are totally accurate. That whole part should have been left out of the movie.

And I agree with most everyone else on most everything else as well. Rhianna.... gawd... having her in there was not good at all. biggrin.gif Not sure why they even felt a female was needed for that role. Let alone having her in it for it.

My biggest issue and I'm surprised no one else mentioned this, is if the main character's such a screw up, and always doing stupid idiotic things, how is it that he's managed to get promoted to lieutenant? And promoted to 1 in what seems such a short amount of time? eek.gif

When he got promoted to running the ship (by default), I kept thinking to myself, just like the rest of the crew in the movie. Really? This guy's in charge? How did that happen? tongue.gif

I thouroughly enjoyed it, if you were expecting a in-depth dramitic over acted cerebral movie then youre outta luck! It's a summer blockbuster action movie folks! But seeing that F*n BAD ASS Phalanx CWIS system lighting off 1000k rounds per minute was incredible. GOD Bless our US Navy Service men Past Present and Future!

Just watched this movie last night. It was not as bad as most people are saying. I thought it was pretty good. I don't know why a few people are saying the bass was lacking. The ULF was not there because it was filtered out but there was still plenty of good strong bass. I must admit that the sharp picture and great sound made me enjoy it more than I should have. Overall it is a good late night popcorn forget about everything real type of movie.
