Help me cut the cord! Extender questions...

I have been a pretty big Ceton fan since I got my InfiniTV a year ago. Problem is my cable bill is $125 for just basic digital TV and internet, I need to cut that in half (keep internet).

I want to sell my InfiniTV and my 2 Linksys DMA2100 extenders as they don't play back MKV. My main HTPC is perfect for OTA, Blu Ray playback, and MKV playback of blu ray storage.

What I need:

Something that will play MKV's smoothly, that has windows media center interface, and can be controlled by a cheap logitech remote.

Do Xbox 360's play hi-bit MKV's without an crazy codecs installed? Am I better off with a cheap HTPC extender build?

Any help is appreciated

Let's say you sell the Linksys units for $100 each. Can you build an HTPC for that?

I would like to see the parts list.

The best would be for you to keep MKV's for playback on the TV connected to HTPC, and convert the MKV's to extender friendly format for playback on those. Chances are that your extenders are not connected to an extra large TV with preceicelly tuned sound system. So, there is no need to play high rez files on those.

Also, with the extenders, if you go the OTA route, you will be able to share tuners, just like you did with Ceton. Meritline has their Magyca tuners on sale today for $17.99 shipped. Get 4 of those and you will be set with OTA.

Thanks for the reply. I like the DMA 2100's, but can I easily convert a MKV to DRMS or WTV format? I tried the DVRM toolbox with absolutely no luck. Thanks again.

Do you have a link to that Mygica tuner? I only see one for $23 a piece smile.gif

There is a daily deal coupon code at meritline for the Mygica A680B that takes $6 off but its limited to 150 uses... I suggest going through their daily deals page as clicking on that link seems to always show me the coupon code, other times its been hit or miss in seeing it.

The Ceton Echo will do what you want when it is released
