Too much subwoofer?

I'm just curious if there is such a thing as having 'too much subwoofer'.

Based on my current speaker and room setup I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new SVS PC12-NSD.

However, within a couple hour drive I have a line on a gently used SVS PB12-ULTRA/2 that, whilst streching the buget a bit further, is not un-doable.

Now as you know this is a huge sub both in terms of weight and size, but evidenced by the proposed purchase of the PC12, the WAF is very low on this matter.

My question is, because the PC12 should more then meet my needs, is the SVS PB12-Ultra just overkill?

Is there such a thing as 'too much sub'.

Thanks,

Dan

PS. I'm using NHT towers, center, and (4) surrounds.

No. No such thing as overkill since you'll integrate the sub into your setup. smile.gif

No, Dorothy, there is no such thing as too much sub. I for one would find your choice totally lacking. I have no WAF to contend with, though.
You need at least two of either of your proposed subs... wink.gif

You can never have to much bass.

I would get dual SVS PC12-NSD subs, instead of a PB12 ULTRA 2.
There's no substitute for smooth bass response.

Yes. Don't break your budget for something you don't need.

I think it's too much sub when it damages your lifestyle. In reality, you already know whether it's too much (PB12 Ultra/2 is too much for you).

On the other hand, if the PC12-NSD meets your significant other's approval, it's possible that you may be free, some months from now, to add a second one. This would close some of the output gap between the two subs, and you might be able to make an easier case for it than you would for a huge box-type sub like the PB12-Ultra/2.

My PC-13 Ultra is perfectly happy in my rather smallish 10x12 HT--might even enjoy the company of a mate. smile.gif

I would rather have too much than not enough, IMO smile.gif
