2012 Mitsubishi 3D DLP Owners Thread (C12/642/742/842 series) - Page 39

Do you mean a 92 inch?
I paid 3000 for mine. Keep looking.
If that question is for me, yes. Asking for repair suggestions on an 82" and availability of a 92". If I can find a 92 at a decent price, I might not repair my 82....
How long ago did you find a 92 for 3 grand?
In February. It was at sav-mart. If you are anywhere near one it would be worth it to check out. Most high profile stores are more expensive. Where do you live?
Seattle. And February was a long time ago for a discontinued TV. The Sav-Mart in this state hasn't had them for almost a year. But I'll keep looking....Thanks!
Did the prices on these skyrocket once discontinued? We got our 82742 from walt's last Nov for $1600, and now I'm seeing used ones priced over $3000! A friend's old flatscreen died, and I figured a used dlp might be a good deal for them.

Also, we never updated our firmware at all.. is there a post that has the latest firmware revision for the 82742? (Were there even updates after 12/2012?)

I have two Mitsubishi TVs connected via ethernet so I think the firmware updates are automatic. I don't need to worry about them.
We just put our set online a month ago, but never saw it update. we looked at the smartv offerings, and it was kind of a joke, since we also have a gaming pc we can run on it as well. Is there a online reference to see the latest update anywhere? I didn't see it in the OP.

Latest firmware is 14.04

I have a 73642. What is everyone using to clean the screen?

I just use a duster. And for the rare time i need to put liquid on it, I use a non alcoholic cleaner that is for camera lenses. But with that has only been a tiny part of the screen. I've never put liquid on more than a tiny section of the screen. This is how I've always cleaned the screens of my HDTVs.

I also have a question about the 3D on my 73642. I have this emitter, PS3 3D glasses & Sony 3D blu ray player. The 3D is almost nonexistent. The glasses and emitter do sync and I can see the images fine (not doubled or blurry) but they don't seem to pop out of the screen. I also have an Epson 3020 and the 3D is amazing, so I have an idea of what I am doing. Any ideas what the issue may be? Thanks in advance.

I use a soft lint-free cloth with water only on one side and dry it up afterwards with the dry side.

I have an 82642 and use the Xpand EX105BT Active 3D Shutter Glasses and Bluetooth Emitter with excellent results.

Here the Amazon link
http://www.amazon.com/Xpand-EX105BT-Bluetooth-Mitsubishi-Televisions/dp/B009ZW7SR2/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388455954&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=xband+bt+3d+emitter

Right now Amazon has the BT emiiter and a pair of BT glasses for only $40 which is a great deal. I paid $70 for it a year ago.

With BT you don't have to worry about line of site. And the range on mine is very good. I can go to the other end of my condo and the 3D glasses will not lose sync.

One pair of just the BT 3D glasses is $35 right now now on Amazon. So $40 for the BT emitter and a pair of the BT 3D glasses is really good.

Although the glasses by themselves are a little more than I paid a year ago. I paid $30 for my extra pair.

Did you remember to switch on 3D in the TV menu?

Thanks, I will order the glasses & emitter and see if that was the issue. Can you think of any memorable 3D moments you've seen that really pops? Even the potato cod fish doesn't seem to pop but on my projector it looks like he's about to kiss you.

I've tried every option imaginable. On, off, Adjusted the depth, etc
The images are blurry (double images) until I sync the glasses. It just doesn't seem like I'm getting any pop outs on things I know have pop outs.

Open Season has excellent 3d, as does Avatar. Rise of the Guardians 3d was pretty good as I recall, but the coolest thing I saw was running Trine complete on my pc.. the 3d in that is simply amazing. Its like playing a fully animated 3d stop motion model.

Keep in mind you also get "in" and "out" right as well. Some things have the 3d flipped. (We prefer things going in rather than popping out of the screen, but well done 3d should have both, IMHO.

We also see it much better at night in a darked room, than in in a room lit with bright daylight.

Hi, I just bought a wd82642 secondhand from the original owner who bought it new one year ago. The picture is not very bright and seems to have gotten worse over the last week. I almost cant see anything in a fully lit room and it is noticeably dimmer at night as well. For example if the screen is showing a white image the corners seem to be almost grey / black. The lamp has 3777 hrs on it and the light in front has not turned red. I do have a full warranty until 2016 through squaretrade so it wont be a big deal to get it fixed. Other than the picture getting dimmer even on bright mode, I love the set . Any ideas from anyone? Would the lamp dim at 3777 hrs?

Thanks, Matt

Is it a blurry image also or just dim and dark?

Just dim an dark, I see you're in Naples I'm in Port Charlotte

I had three light engines replaced because the picture started getting dark and blurry. I thought it was the lamp, but after replacing it, the problem didn't go away and the tech had to replace the light engine.

I would try a new lap first. It's good to have a backup lamp anyway. If that doesn't fix it, call the tech.

I've been to port Charlotte a few times. Fisherman's village?

Thanks for the advice I will try a new lamp, hopefully it isn't the light engine. Yeah we go to fishermans village on occasion, usually to the captains deck restaurant. BTW I hate the Yankees haha, grew up in Jersey as a Mets fan not that that's much to be proud of these days either!

Anyone know of a place with the 92" still in stock and selling for decent price (near Chicago).

I have a 2010 82838 which had 1 light engine already replaced by MITS and the upper left corner of the screen is starting to flicker intermittently. I don't have a warranty anymore and if it's the light engine I may look to buy new set instead of replacement
post #1167 of 1188
Does anybody have what looks like a convergence problem toward the edges of the screen? I just had the light engine replaced, and the problem remains. Text and white symbols show definite red/blue edging on either side. I have attached two pictures to help illustrate. Is this to be expected due to geometry/mirrors in a large TV? Any recommendations on what part might cause this?

Thanks,
Tom

Well, turned out a new lamp fixed it. The light on the front of the tv never indicated lamp trouble, but when I pulled the old lamp out it was clearly shot, the "stem" in the bulb was askew and the base of the "stem" was swollen out like an egg. Thanks for the advice, worked out well.

After two months of waiting, a technician arrived with a new DM board....too bad it didn't solve the problem! Seems the first tech misdiagnosed the issue and they ordered the wrong part. They are going to order a color wheel / engine and we'll try this again. Hopefully it's quicker than 2 months this time. If they ever get my TV fixed it'll have all new innards! tongue.gif

I calibrated the geometry when we first got it, and after 14 months am revisiting it, and its off quite a bit. The tv hasn't been moved. Is this normal over time?
