2012 Mitsubishi 3D DLP Owners Thread (C12/642/742/842 series) - Page 26

I just tried HDMI 3 with my Harmony One. The TV would not respond to it. HDMI input 1 and 2 are fine though as you mentioned. Have you tried having the H1 learn the HDMI3 button from the Mitsubishi remote?

EDIT: I see the Mitsubishi remote doesn't have direct access to the HDMI inputs. So I guess their database is right for the first two input but wrong for the third one. What about trying one of the other models that has four HDMI inputs? Maybe that will work.

In the database for the tv, it does list 4 hdmi inputs, and I did try the hdmi-4, but it didn't seem to make a difference. I guess I'll have to send an email to logitech.

BTW, thanks for checking!

UPDATE: High Speed HDMI cables a must. Set recognized it right away once I was using those.

I just wanted to chime in and say hello to all the 2012 Mitsubishi TV owners on the forum. I just purchased a WD-92842 and it should arrive Monday and hopefully undamaged, god forbid as i may have bought one of the very last ones. Now I'll need to sell my Wd-65837.

as some of you may or may not know I have a eye one pro spectroradiometer and calman 4 and I will be posting out of the box calibration readings as well as post calibration results once i have finished breaking in the new bulb. For those of you who care, you can look forward to seeing that. I couldn't really afford this TV but as I could never afford to buy a 92 inch flat panel and front projection is still impractical for me and likely more expensive to achieve the same quality I expect from this set I just had to gamble and get it. its aether now or never, basically.

Awesome! Congrats on your new set.

I was in the same boat you were, always wanted a bigger set than my old 73", but I just couldn't swing the 92" so instead I had to settle for a WD-82642 which I still love and am glad I bought the thing while I still could. I've now reached the point where I feel like yea, the 92" would have been great, but the 82" is just fine. biggrin.gif

Looking forward to reading more from you as time goes on, thanks for sharing. smile.gif

Just an update, my Darbee Darblet that I just ordered is coming in tomorrow, can't wait to try it out. wink.gif

I would be interested to see how your calibration results compare with mine (I used the Disney WOW disk). I have the same model. I posted the results earlier on this forum.

I just received a 73742 yesterday and am using a Panasonic 3d Blu-Ray player. Am I expecting too much of 3d? I tried it with Ice Age Continental Drift and in 3d it seemed like the front characters seemed 3D, but it seemed more of a 3d in depth as opposed to things coming out of the tv. Only the top/bottom 3d setting seemed to get clear and I tried reverse and normal with the internal emitter. I am using the monoprice IR glasses for Samsung as the reviews said they are compatable. Any help would be appreciated.

In my experience with 3D, there are very few movies where the objects come out of the TV and a lot that just have more depth.

None of my personal TVs nor those of my friends (about 7 DLPs, so far) have a reflection problem. I would recommend a service call if your TV has those reflections

I hope you are correct. I have searched forums and have yet to see someone who has the issue post back that they had a tech out that fixed it under warranty. If anyone has had this affect fixed by a tech under warranty, please post! It would be great to know it is fixable at no cost to us! smile.gif

btw., I personally see a secondary glow off-put a few inches above any brighter object on a darker background in the top third of the screen. It isn't terrrible, I am used to it, and it might even be improving with age. But sometimes it really does look like blond people with black backgrounds have a halo.

The same here. There might be a couple of scenes in a movie, whether at the theater or on the Mitsubishi, where an oblect might look like it's coming out of the screen. Otherwise, to me, everything in 3D looks like I'm looking through a window and you see depth tin the picture.

I thought that was what we were talking about? I've seen that in every RP set I've ever looked at. But to varying degress. It might be anywhere between a little or alot.

I had called the warranty number about it this past weekend, but they said the service area was closed and to call back this week. But I never got around to calling back.

When I bought my 73742 back in July, I had been reading about the rainbow effect, and saw it immediately on darker scenes with light foreground objects. However, it is now 6 months later, and I rarely notice the rainbow effect anymore. I believe that my teeny brain must just compensate for it somehow, or it keeps my eyes from darting around the screen so much (which may be an initial symptom of getting a bigger TV). I also was probably trying to initiate the effect, having read about what caused it. Whatever the reason, I am exceedingly pleased that I no longer see the rainbows. I do see the slight glow in the upper letterbox portion of the screen when bright object is up there, but I only really notice it when I try. Again, I think the brain compensates for stuff like that when you are watching a movie that is keeping your interest and not trying to observe the screen itself.

I will be interested to see what you find. I have the 92840 coming from a 2009. I ended up with a Radiance and do my calibrations in Bright Picture, Bright Lamp modes. I was just using a D3 Pro and Chromapure. I recently bought a "b" stock i1 Pro from SpectraCal to profile the D3. Unfortunately you don't have enough control of color in Bright mode, which wide gamut so I use the Advanced Auto-calibrate feature. The benefit of this is that you are calibrating at 20,5075 and 100 percent saturations. The wide gamut mode allows you get the primaries (blue which is always the bugaboo on the 837s) fully saturated, in fact they are oversaturatded in bright as a starting point..

I was looking to purchase a 92842 but can't seem to locate one.

Does anyone know where I can find one new (brick and mortar)
You probably won't find one (brick and mortar). You'll have to get it online if you want one.

I've been able to put some more time in with my new 73742 and have stopped noticing rainbows as much as I did at first. I was a bit worried but I think over time I will notice them even less. One question, has anyone found a dvd/blu ray that looks any different using the 2d to 3d conversion? I tried a few out and haven't seen any real difference.

No, I tried this once and didn't see much difference at all. Don't think that the "2D + Depth" added much at all so I don't use the feature.

I feel like I'm seeing double?

In my use, depending on the depth setting, it made either little difference or a huge difference in how it looked.

I use the 2d/3d conversion on some movies and the how good/bad it is very much depends on the movie.

Some just get a little depth added, others seem to respond better.

Is the Mitsubishi WD73C12 Home Cinema 73-Inch DLP 1080p Projection TV a true HD TV? I need a answer fast. Thanks
post #776 of 1014
yes. But no 3D.

Thx

I've recently run into a problem on my 82742.

I hooked up one of our network Pcs to it, and I'm getting severe overscan on it. I adjusted settings on the standard 1080p resoluion in the video card preferences, but I'm geting it again when a game switchs resolutions.

is there a way to set the overscan preferences on the tv, so all the output resolutions are scaled properly to fit, or am I going to have to make adjustments for every potential game resolution?

PITA!
Trying to track down the issue, I see that windows is just using a generic pnp driver for the monitor. Is there a proper windows driver we should install for the 82742?

I googled but came up empty handed.

Just ordered a 73" 642 from Amazon! It should be here before Superbowl Sunday. I paired it up with a Pinnacle TV stand that reviewers said perfectly matched up with the dimensions of the TV. I replaced my receiver too and got an Onkyo TX-NR 515. And I didn't know how I felt about the glasses so I only ordered a 2 pack of the True Depth 3D DLP Link glasses, if I like em enough I'll get another 2 pack or a 4 pack at that point.

My question to you guys, especially the 642 owners, is how much initial calibration should I do? I've heard some people say the picture comes well calibrated out of the box for certain settings and unless it bothers me I should just leave it alone. And any tips or hints for a first time user of DLP? I'm coming from a 46" Sony Bravia so I'm hoping to be blown away by the size and picture. Thanks for the reply guys.
