2012 Mitsubishi 3D DLP Owners Thread (C12/642/742/842 series) - Page 27

I have the 73742 which is essentially the same tv from a video standpoint.

I also got the Disney WOW calibration disk and found that for the most part, just a bit of twiddling the contrast and brightness was amazingly all I had to do.

I use 2 video settings depending on source and time of day/night. I use 'Bright' with color temp set to 'warm' and not much else but minor tweaking for daytime viewing or on 3D movies that are very dark in nature. And I use 'normal' (maybe called 'standard' can't remember), for all other times.

The picture on our 82742 looked great out of the box. Once I made some basic setting adjustments to ours tastes, I was pretty happy with it. The only other thing I did was a few weeks later, open up the advanced menu, and set the geometry/alignment settings better than the factory settings.

While that looks better and correct to the eye, I'm not sure if that was actually an improvement, because I see some "bowing" in the middle section of the screen when I have our pc on.

Everyone told us to hold off buying a larger tv for superbowl sales.. and it turns out we haven't seen anything near as close price wise to what we got, since Mits discontinued the dlp line, and the prices have gone up. Smaller stuff is chep, but larger more desirable stuff is still higher IMHO.

I'm so upset that I can't watch my first Super Bowl on my 92842. I was elected to run the annual SB party at my church. It is fun and crowded, but I wanted to see the glory on a bigger screen. Oh well, at least the food will be good and plenty. If I had a portable screen, then I would take one of my projectors to compensate. Let us know how the game looks on your sets...don't forget to have your calibration up to par by Saturday.

In response to the guy with pc overscan issues:

This is the nature of rear projection. Its core is a digital display, but it has to project an image larger than the actual screen size. Best you can do is run your pc at custom resolutions, everything from desktop to games. I guess it was just too expensive for Mits (and others) to incorporate a variable zoom for these digital rear projectors, thereby at least allowing one to minimize 'overscan'.
Has anyone found a great price on a 92842 (online)?

I've been searching for quite awhile and the best I've seen is 3500 from an obscure online dealer and of course Walt's 3999 price (which I don't think is a bargain by any means).

Whats odd though is my desktop is 1920x1080 and it displays perectly.

The game is 1920x1080, and displays oddly. Normally on a pc I'd say it was a driver issue. it could also be because that pc has a video card several years old, and they didn;t anticipate use on larger flatscreens back then.

Thank you lparsons and Gareee.I hope to avoid the geometry and bowing issues that some people have but it sounds like it isn't the worst thing in the world to fix. Unfortunately the shippers just called and said I will not be getting the TV until Monday. So that means no Superbowl on the big screen and it also means I'll be using the 46" Bravia on a TV stand designed for a 73 incher lol.

And I know what you mean Gareee I could've had the 82" for what I got this 73" model for about a month ago. Then Mitsu discontinued and I figured the prices would go even lower and I was wrong. Once I saw this 73642 start creeping up past the $1500 range I knew I had to jump fast.

I bought mine at paulstv.com at the beginning of December 2012 but when I went to check on it a few minutes ago, it says it "out of stock". I guess Walt's is the next best place to get one? I've bought at Walt's before and they're pretty good. I just don't think that they offer the "white-glove" delivery that Paul's offers?
Walt's doesn't offer it, but we pretty much got the same thing from the shipper that delivered here.

I helped him unbox and move it into our home, and we plugged it into something quick to make sure it was working. since the box looked pristine, I was satisfied.

The bowing I'm seeing is not visible at all during general viewing, or using the wiiu or the ps3.

I think I'm so used to seeing it on my 28" flatpanel monitor I'm a bt pickier.. my wife can't see it at all, and I thinks its just th enature of this display system.

For the extra $2000 it would have cost us for something different, I'm very pleased.

I'm actually installing mame, and old arcade machine emulator on our media box today, so I can play me some monster sized Space Invaders, Dig Dug, Joust, and Defender!

What was Paul's Selling it for? Walt's wants 3999 for the 92842
post #791 of 1014
Hello, I have purchased the 73742 a few weeks ago, and really love it so far. I do have a concern about the convergence, which I know is not something to adjust on these TV's. Maybe I am paranoid from my old Panasonic set where I had to spend hours adjusting all the convergence points. I have taken some pictures in the Geometry menu showing the white lines having blue or red to each side. Even the red/blue color border produces a clear purple area. Can anyone comment if this is normal for these DLP's? Or is there a potential problem with my set that I should be calling Mitsubishi for? I have also aligned the Geometry crosses to the bezel and let it auto correct, but that makes no difference to "convergence". The pics are before I set the geometry.

Thanks,
Tom

Gotcha. Paul's was a deal then. I saw that they were selling for 3199 when they had them in stock

Walt's price jump up as soon as Paul's tv sold out after the nfl championship games. I was trying 2 get a 92 as well but didn't want to pay walts new price so I settled for a 82 from pauls with the bundle and I Love it + it's cheaper. I was able to find the 92 online @ etroxell.com for a descent price but wasn't able to reach their cust srv dept to see how they will deliver the tv so I moved on. http://www.etroxell.com/presentation-displays/monitors-and-displays/mitsubishi-wd-92842.html

The back enclosure on our old TV was sturdy to hold this 25 lbs speaker on this mount. But on this new Mitsubishi TV, the back enclosure seems flimsy. I just do not want to damage the mirror or any hardware underneath it, what do you guys think? I can see the legs on this mount bend the enclosure a little bit down. The TV frame is not of high quality either, but may be ok with the weight.

Any insights? Is my concern even valid? If so, any recommendations? I could build a shelf on the back wall, but the speaker moves too far back or high. I like this setup, except I am worried about damaging the mirror inside.

Haven't called Mitsubishi, but I have a feeling they will ask me to remove it. Appreciate some expert thoughts.

I have the same concerns. I just got the C12 and I have the exact same stand, with a Sapphire center channel that weighs around the same. The legs on the stand aren't long enough to reach the slanted part on the back, and the case overall seems a lot flimsier than the 50" Sammy DLP it is replacing. It doesn't seem to even be sturdy enough to hold the stand by itself, much less the stand plus speaker, although the weight might distribute a little better if I build extensions for the legs somehow. I wonder if it is even worth the trouble, or should I investigate other solutions?

Try using a piece of cheap angle stock horizontally across the back of the TV (and under the omnimount feet) to spread the load. Use double-sided tape to attach it.

So you have your desktop resolution at 1080p and everything fits on screen just fine (except for that game)? HOw are you connected, HDMI? I had to settle for a smaller screen res on my older 65", cuz the corner items were not visible, therefore inaccessible. It's mostly an HTPC, so I can set WMC to output content at full res since at that point the overscan is not critical.
From what I read finally, its a known ati driver isue.. improper scaling, and an inability to change the settings.
There is a trick though to fix it.. you set your desktop to something smaller resolution than your monitor's capable of, then the scaling is available. You adjust that to taste, and then reset your display to the full resolution again.

That still did not work for that specific game (The free pinball editor/creator called future pinball), but running it in windowed mode does worth, with the exception of course of the window frame. I can live with that though.

other games run fine.. I just installed my old rayman2 game, and it works perfectly, though that could be because I have the proper scaling settings now applied.

You videocard's driver should have overscan settings so you can fit to your screen. My desktop is scaled down about 10% I think.

Tiger Direct has refurbed 83742's for $1099 and 642's at $1299. Go figure. But I don't think either will be there for long at those prices.

I see the 642 for $1499 refurb.

They mislabled it. That is the 842 at $1499. Here is the link. But I would definitely call to clear that up before buying.

That link looks to give the specs for the 642, such as the 3 HDMI. I thought the 842 had 4 HDMI.

I contacted support and they said the information is directly from the mfg and is accurate as displayed. Looks like Paul's is about sold out of the 842's, too. Anyone know a good place to find one still? lol

It seems the cheapest is from Walts or Sears at $3,999.00 for the 92842...

Hey guys... I'm getting an opened box 92842 delivered later this week, can someone provide a list of accessories, manuals, and parts I should expect to receive? I can't find this on the Mits. site.

Thanks! smile.gif

There's really not much to get when you get your TV.

You get a TV.

An owners manual.

A remote.

A HUGE box full of packing material.

That's basically it.

IIRC you do also get batteries for the remote which is nice.

Congrats on your TV. Where'd you get it and for how much if you don't mind me asking. Thanks. smile.gif

WOW!! I didn't realize the amount of electricity this TV used. I finally connected my power meter to to my 82" 642 model. In standby/off it's drawing 19 watts. And when on it's drawing 210 watts. And around 30 more watts if in Bright mode. I had become so used to my Samsung LED DLP set that only drew around 100 watts.
Do you have it set to quick restart? That uses more power in standby.

I've never noticed a quick start option on my 92840. Is that available on the 842?

I'm not sure, I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

Edit: I don't see anything in the manual about "quick restart".
