AVR Not showing up in Windows 7 Playback Devices?

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter
I am having a problem in Windows 7 where my AVR (Yamaha RX-V867) is sometimes not showing up in my list of audio playback devices. Instead either my HDMI monitor or my HDMI HDTV will show up as the HDMI device. This usually happens after a restart and is inconsistent, sometimes the AVR will show up sometimes the monitor/TV. Also the HDMI device (whatever device windows is recognizing at that time) is not always automatically selected as the default playback device, instead reverting back to the Speakers. Does anyone know how to make the AVR consistently show up as the playback device?

I have a slightly odd setup.

W7 / Gigabyte Z68 mobo / i3 2100 - using onboard HDMI and graphics -> AVR (HDMI)

AVR HDMI Output 1 -> HDTV

AVR HDMI Output 2 -> Monoprice HDMI Powered Spliter
-> Monitor
-> Kitchen TV

AVR is setup with HDMI standby passthorugh

I know it's been a while, but in my quest to figure something similar, I found your post.

I have a different setting, but close enough, that I wonder if you ever found a solution.

My issue:

W7 / Asrock z77 Extreme4 / i5 - using onboard HDMI and graphics -> AVR (HDMI)

AVR HDMI Output 1 -> HDTV

AVR is setup with HDMI standby passthorugh

If I leave the AVR off, w7 recognizes the AVR fine.
If I power on the AVR, w7 shows the HDTV instead, and there's no AVR in the list.
