This could be good....very good. If the movie matches the trailer, then it could be great.

REAL Science Fiction!!!smile.gifcool.gif

Intriguing trailer, but this looks so conceptually ambitious that it'll either be really good or a really big mess with no middle ground. Cast looks great although Shirley Maclaine seems conspicuously absent.

Totally agree. It has a plot that may be tougher to follow than Inception as I expect it not to be linear, but the period custumes will help. If they pull it off, with or without Shirley, it'll be fun to watch. cool.gif

"Tougher to follow than inception" isn't really a high barometer.

it reminds me of The Fountain somehow... The Fountain meets Mr. Smith wink.gif

Not sure what you mean by the barometer, however, a lot of folks claimed that they couldn't follow all the levels and the time differences. Most if not all on this forum had no problem.

Was just joking that it's not very hard to be more complicated than a relatively uncomplicated movie. I do agree there was a lot of confusion for many people and even faux philosophical discussions on it, but it's more of a critique of today's movie going public than anything. Maybe it was the recursion? I hate to imagine their reaction to Memento, The Fountain, Mulholland Drive or Solaris.

Actually, it's probably why those movies didn't do too well, financially.

Really! I didn't think movies like this were made anymore. Makes me all warm and fuzzy. smile.gif Trailer itself almost brought tears to me eye. redface.gif

The problem with Inception is the very same problem with Fincher's The Game: ONE twist too far...wink.gif
post #13 of 107
The problem with Inception is the whole damn thing is explained explicitly to the audience by the actors. Wish it was just shot in a way I had to figure it out, myself.

Yeah, but it's not nearly as bad as The Prestige (also by Nolan?); Michael Caine is a fav, but his "explainer" at the end was sooo not needed....

These mind bending movies just keep coming. Keenan posted this in the HDTV Programming forum.

mmmyah... I don't find these things very funny most of the time, they often feel like "oh look how smart we are!" and instead they just end up embarrassing themselves. I'll stick with Cloud Atlas wink.gif

I watched this trailer yesterday and thought it was intriguing. I watched again today and felt less so. Trailers tend to highlight the fascinating so there are many ways this film can go wrong. Hopefully this will be a good one. Tom Hanks really needs one in his plus column.

IMDB lists it as 26 Oct.

Wow! That trailer makes it look like the Greatest Movie Ever Made. Of course, trailers make every movie look like that. Then the finished product comes along and you realize every single cool shot in the movie was in that trailer and the screenplay sucked. tongue.gif
post #22 of 107
I'm finding it hard to imagine how the movie will be able to live up to the expectations set by the trailer. I sure hope it does, though!

I was excited about this movie, so I decided to read the book. I really wish I hadn't. I won't say the book was bad, it just isn't the sort of thing I'd normally read. Unfortunately, I'm much less interested in this movie now, and even considering waiting for it to come out of BD. This may be one of those rare occasions where the movie is better than the book.

Trailer shows waaaaaay too much. it's insane. I stopped watching it.

Reviews are all over the place.

You're saying a twist within a twist?

I'm saying there is a limit to the amount of "twists" that can be utilized before it becomes silly and self-indulgent.wink.gif

I liked it too. wink.gif

Reviews are in on the pre-screaning in Toronto. Mostly favorable. Either you can follow what's happening or you will get lost seem to dictate which way it falls. Most take it as an ambitious project that succeeds.
