Finally got started on the novel upon which the film is based. I have read about 25 percent of it and like it so far. My concern about the Cloud Atlas film is that, despite its 172 minutes runtime, I wonder how it can adequately tell a story as long, 500 plus pages, complex, and multifaceted as Mitchell's novel is. The upside to the film for me is that IMDb voters have really liked it, giving it an average vote of 7.9 Stars out of 10. Looks like I missed in the theater but will probably rent the BD when it is released.

The WBs have never really disappointed me and have often thrilled (puts firesuit on).
For that reason, they get a blind buy from me.

Stieg Larsson’s books were almost 700 pages and I thought they did a good job with those, so keep the faith. smile.gif

I thought it was a visually stunning movie, definitely worthy of a theatrical viewing as well as a BD purchase down the line, but admit to being -- as Daniel Boone once put it -- "a mite confused" at times. tongue.gif Probably due to the complexity of the book and so many different stories with the same actors unfolding more or less simultaneously. I'm sure it's a fantastic read, though.

Except for Speed Racer, I can say I'm a fan of their work. The only thing that really disappointed me in the Matrix trilogy was how the "I know Kung-Fu" line was delivered* biggrin.gif other than that I loved the 3 films (there. I said it.) V For Vendetta is a favorite of mine, even Bound was good, for many reasons... wink.gif

..And their next project (which they're directing), Jupiter Ascending, looks interesting.

*but I like Keanu too.

Haven't read the book and thought they told the stories very well. The editing was well done and there was a point in the film where it all fell into place nearing the last hour. It feels like a repeat viewer for sure.

I thought SR was incredibly creative with the CGI.
The BD is stunning (except for the lossy audio mad.gif).

I still loved it. Bought the soundtrack too.

Chris Hardwick did have all three directors on his podcast... :-)

I agree that the Wachowskis do good work as both directors and writers. The first Matrix movie was a great film, and I use the word, great, advisedly. They also wrote the screenplay for V for Vendetta, another of my favorite films

I have the Millennium Trilogy films on BD and love them. They really are a good example of how films can sometimes match the quality of the books upon which they were based. In fact, apostasy though it may be, I think the films may be even better than Larsson's novels in some ways.

Here is a quick synopsis from IMDB concerning Jupiter Ascending:

In a universe where humans are near the bottom of the evolutionary ladder, a young destitute human woman is targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe because her very existence threatens to end the Queen's reign.

Shooting is scheduled to begin this spring.

I'm pretty sure they're not brothers anymore.

For your crimes against pop culture you are sentenced to Alexander Salkind's Santa Claus The Movie.

Note that I deleted your post before you posted yours. That was because in my earlier post about the writers and directors of Cloud Atlas, I called them, "the Wachowskis," not, "the Wachowski brothers." Now, that you have outed me, though, I have to live with my ignorance having been revealed.smile.gif

"Brothers" is easier to spell.
I guess we could refer to them as "The Wachowskis, formerly known as The Brothers."
