Is it possible to set the "A" channel speakers to small and the "B" Channel speakers to "Large" on a Denon ARV-1910???? I've been messing with this for awhile and I don't think it's possible, but before giving up completely I thought I would check it out here first.

I have Satellite speakers in the house on the "A" front speakers and some larger outdoor speakers on the "B" front speakers. I would like to play the "B" outdoor speakers as "Large" and keep the interior "A" front channel speakers as "small". Is there another way to do this that I haven't thought of yet??

Thank you in advance.

The A and B speakers are connected to the same amp. You could connect the outdoor speakers to the Surr Back/Amp Assign speaker posts and set Amp Assign to Zone 2 with the restriction that only "analog" sources would pass to the Zone 2 speakers, however, they would be set as LARGE.

JD,

Aren't the B speakers stereo only since the Denon doesn't do any bass management to them? I could be wrong though.

The B speakers get the same signal as the A speakers and all settings for the A speakers apply to the B speakers except when using the Custom 2CH/Direct settings noted in post #9.

Would you happen to know what model year Denon's allow digital sources to be placed in Zone 2? I'd like to have a typical HT setup with small speakers all around, but use large speakers to listen to USB music. Your Zone 2 setup would work.

Depends on what you mean by Zone 2? If you just mean a 2nd set of "music only" speakers in the same main zone, then the Front B feature will do that and is a feature of any Denon 7.1 AVR (the Surr Back/Amp Assign speaker posts are used for the Front B speakers). In this configuration, any audio selected in the main zone will pass to the Front B speakers (HDMI, digital, or analog). If you truly want an independent source option (ie. Zone 2), only the 33XX series and higher feature PCM 2.0 over optical/digital coax (but no HDMI) to Zone 2 (although this feature has been removed on the new 3313CI model in lieu of the new Zone 2 (HDMI) connection).

Thanks JD.

I thought I might be able to use the "Zone 2" option, but all of my sources are digital. It's not a major issue. I'll play around with the HPF ranges and find a good balance between the indoor and outdoor speakers. Thank you for all the details and info! At least I know what my options are now...

I forgot the 1910 offers the 2CH/Direct custom settings which you can use to achieve your goal. If you don't use STEREO mode in the main zone, you can use the custom STEREO settings (p. 29) to set the Front B speakers to LARGE, and then set the Front Speaker Setup (p. 27) for STEREO mode to Front B. Then whenever you switch to STEREO mode, then only the Front B speakers will be active.

JD do you have one of those photographic memories?? Love that the page numbers where included. I'll set it up tonight. I should be able to make this work. Thank you!

Not at all ....... rather just have all of the Denon Owner's manuals from the last 5 years downloaded from Denon's website. smile.gif

Cool! I'll see if the 2311CI has this feature. I've got my eye on a refurb form a4l.

Yup ... it does as well ... pp. 59, 60. smile.gif

Note however, that on the new XX13 models, the feature has been removed on all but the 3313CI.

Yup, just looked at the manual. This clinches it for me. Very cool feature indeed! Thanks again...for remembering!
