+1

3 things need to happen immediately or there will be a Suspension of Disbelief problem for me.
1. The little girl needs to be in a convent....far far away.
2. No way Corky would take the wife back...she should be 86ed from the show posthaste.
3. Francis is also gone forever, no way Kevin would accept his presence anywhere near Five Points.

Definitely lots of plots points in this episode. John Wilkes Booth? biggrin.gif

1) At this point, Annie doesn't need to go. She isn't the little brat anymore.
2) Yep, I agree with this point.
3) Don't know about this one. This could go either way.

No matter what, I am enjoying this series.

A "brat" isn't the word I would use to describe her behavior.
It isn't credible that Corky would have prepubescent child hitting on him all the time living in his house....or even his life.

I'd agree with you if it wasn't for the dinner scene. By that it was evident she sees Corky as a father figure and that her fantasy about him has more to do with a happy family life than being romantic. And for his own reasons the idea of her being a surrogate daughter would be appealing.

A surrogate daughter who has killed two people (though she had good reason) is possibly more appalling than appealing.

To me and you, maybe. Corky seems to consider killing as a convenient solution to many of life's problems. smile.gif He even gave her the means and opportunity for the 1st one.

Hey, I'm not saying the relationship isn't a little weird...

Hard to imagine anyone raising a kid that "street smart." She would corrupt any classmates in a school where she's 10 going on 22. One would need special schools for that.

You're forgetting the time/place she's living in. Probably a normal well adjusted kid for Five Points...

Not hardly.

If their families didn't have enough money to allow them to go to school instead, most kids were too busy working in factories and other places 10 hours a day to help support their families to be that outrageous. Plus, acting out like she does would likely result in them being put through a wall following a good thrashing.

Agreed, those were tough times....even more so for kids.

I agree thats how it was in most places at that time. But 5 Points is a different animal in the reality of the show. I think the writers have established life there was several rungs lower than normal society. These are the outcasts with no hope of rising out of the sewer outside of crime, Working 10 hoirs a day in a factory would be a step up...In this world, a rags to riches story is running a brothel, and even the symbols of morality (the cops) are corrupt, cold blooded killers.

Well, not much has changed...

Good news....I think.

So last night's episode wrapped it up for this season of Copper. For me, this was the best new series of the year, and am looking forward to Season 2.

This series definitely has its ups and downs.

Liked seeing the old man being exiled to Atlanta.

Didn't like the saving of Francis.
Didn't like Corky keeping the wife and kid around.
Didn't like rough and tough as nails Corky suddenly looking for the easy out.

I'll give it another try next season, but it better improve or it gets sh_tcanned....

Did you even read the posting right above yours?

It is going to be a little tough to view another episode this coming weekend. biggrin.gif

DID you actually read my post closely?

Obviously I didn't. For some idiotic reason I saw "season" as "week."

I need new glasses and sleep.

Sorry about that.

I dunno. I liked how they resolved everything from this season while leaving it open to further the storylines in the next. I don't remember what you mean about Corky taking the easy way out but I thought his actions were in character...did I miss something?

All in all, I liked the show. Very british in nature, from the gloomy atmosphere to the flawed characters. It could be argued that there is no "good guy", except maybe the doctor...noboy all that smart either. smile.gif Found that interesting enough to keep me watching and wanting more.

I was talking about the final scene.

Without a doubt, this series had a strong first season....most shows never come close to this quality (IMO).
