I'm just getting into backing everything up and I'm learning.

So far I'm using HandBrake and DVD Decrypter. I should have done this a LONG time ago (as in before the discs were scratched/broken by the kids).

Anyways, I'd like to set it up so that I don't need my DVD player anymore. Am I best off putting an actual PC near my display in the living room or should I get a box of some sort?
I'd like to do the following:
-Play from "My Videos" over the network
-Play from the Internet (Browsers)
-Have the ability to play games (emulators and otherwise)

I'm thinking an actual HTPC is the best bet, but not knowing whats out there I'm curious to know if I'm on the right track.

If you want emulators, then you'll probably need an HTPC. I don't know of any set top box that includes or allows you to install emulators.

The xbox can play games, extend from a computer to play any media via WMC but will not interface with internet except through Live membership fairly limited apps. Tried the xfinity app on a free weekend since I am a Comcast customer and it sucked big time, accessing xfinity via computer much better but still does not beat HD TV.
