Looks like Sony & Toshiba will be using AUO panels

I am guessing TCL could be the competitor for AUO in China:
"China-based TV vendors Skyworth and Konka are preparing to release new 4Kx2K TV products during the October 1 holidays in China, indicating the vendors are moving towards making high-end units. However, sizes of the TVs have yet to be confirmed and there is only speculation that AUO will be providing the panels." -Hyundai Securities

Interesting, I just assumed they were buying those 84s from LG, who was willing to say to justify ramping production on that line. I guess not.

Probably some AUO facility that was making 42s and has way too much capacity. So they made some small changes on the core parts of the line to turn 4 x 42 into 1 x 84 and then designed a new BLU for integration to make the giant module.

LG launches 29" >21:9 aspect ratio multimedia monitor at IFA. (29" in 21:9AR has approximately the same hight as a 24" 16:9 monitor)

I'm hoping the HX950 means there is at least a model coming back with full-array dimming. The "carryover" HX929 is more or less gone from the market (it's not at any retail I can find, although Sony and some online may have them). Also, Sony has no current 65", so that would be welcome too.

I guess we'll find out eventually.

Of course, the fact that this constitutes excitement per Sony is a bummer.

As for the 84", I expect all of these 84" announcements are going to be for $20K TVs. Sharp will own the market with it's $10K model and, for that matter, has the ability to go to 4K whenever it wants to.

Doesn’t seem like a huge amount of changes, mostly higher brightness with “Intelligent Peak LED” and “Impulse” mode being brought over from the other models this year. Hopefully there will be an increase in dimming zones, but as usual Sony doesn’t mention how many there are.

Does anyone know whether you can disable the Intelligent Peak LED dimming algorithm? (any HX929 owners out there?) I prefer the “standard” LED dimming algorithm, as it keeps peak brightness where I set it, rather than going for maximum contrast at all times.
