I have a passive sub that I need to hook up...

I need help setting up an amp and a crossover for a Revel Ultima sub-15 to work with my F52`s.
I`d like to have the 52`s see nothing much lower than say 80Hz.

The sub is passive with no amp/crossover at all.
The sub only has 1 set of speaker level connections not a set for left and a set for right just a (+) & (-)

So I need suggestions on what I need to put it all together.
An active x-over that sums left and right stereo into a mono speaker level connection looks to be in order.
Or maybe a top shelf Plate amp ?

if you have a receiver with bass management, then choose 80hz as your crossover point. the receiver will put a second order highpass on your mains and a 4th order low pass on your subs. then use the subwoofer pre-out. it is an rca type connector.

from there, it kind of depends, but at a minimum, you will need an external amp.

it looks like that sub came with a 700 watt external amplifier, the 1le below.

as far as choosing a plate amp, pro audio amp, or a typical home audio amp, that is really up to you. so long as you don't run into clipping, they will all sound more less the same (assuming that you have enough output voltage from your receiver). the behringer ep4000 or iNuke line pro amps are proven, have plenty of power, low cost, but they don't quite look as good as the revel. :-)

the revel amp was designed to look good.



there are some eq and auto-eq devices that could be placed in between the receiver and the amp, but as a general rule eq can't fix problems with the room and that is where most problems occur.

an amp that should work well for you and doesn't cost much money is this one:

not as pretty as the revel, but the revel is discontinued and probably cost 5-7 times as much.

Thanks..No receiver just a phono stage with volume control fed straight in to my amp.
The LE-1 would be nice BUT...N/A and had problems I guess and was $6000 eek.gif
I`ll check out that amp you suggested.

what is your phono source (ipod?) and what is your amp?

my preliminary thoughts are to use a phono to rca converter, through something like a mini-dsp, and then off to the amps and then the drivers.
