New Denon AVR-3313 nothing working

I bought this yesterday, but haven't got it working yet.

I connected the speakers (5.1ch main zone & zone 2+3) and was getting the audio from CD player working. I also connected it to my TV and saw the setup appear. I went through that with no problems.

I then connected my other devices (TIVO, Google TV, Blu-ray, Xbox) via HDMI but I cannot see anything on my TV.

I have also lost the ability to listen to CDs.

Tried via headphones too, but nothing!

It is constantly trying to update but always fails even though its connected to network (iTunes sees is for AirPlay but connection to play fails).

I set a static IP via my router (DD-WRT).

I tried to reset it but I'm not sure it does or not!

Can anyone help me pls?

Thanks

I've tried to call the support number, but I sat in position 1 for over 10 minutes which is frustrating! No answer mad.gif

I just can't get this thing to work anymore frown.gif

PLEASE HELP!!!

First things first ... how do you have Zones 2 and 3 speakers wired to the AVR? Have you run the AUTO SETUP (Audyssey) progam to configure your 5.1 setup properly? Unplug all source devices and just try getting a single source device to pass video through to the TV first. Try each and every main zone HDMI input.

I have Zones 2 & 3 speakers connected, but not complete 5.1 Main speakers connected.

The setup appeared on my TV to begin with, but I don't know how to get to it now. Completed it before.

My AVR3313 keeps trying to update before giving Connection Failed 01 error (even if not connected to network!).

Will try removing everything now. Speakers too?

Thanks for your help!

I'm not getting any audio from tuner or cd player so issue is bigger than just HDMI output.

When I did the reset, will that want the setup I saw on tv before to re-run?

I'm wondering if the update issues are currently stopping the device from working. Has there been an update released? Is it looking for one or trying to install it?

Your response is unclear to me ... how can you have a 5.1 setup, but not have 5.1 connection to the AVR? Are you passing a "mono" signal to each of the Zone 2 and 3 speakers? Otherwise, you can only connect "either" the Zone 2 OR Zone 3 speakers if passing "stereo" but not both, unless you are using the Zone 2/3 pre-outs to an external amp(s). Just trying to make sure you have the speakers connected correctly. Please describe your wiring to each speaker post.

Also for tips on your IP connection ....

I have mono zone 2 and mono zone 3 speakers connected to the Speaker Back posts. What I meant by not complete 5.1 connections is that I haven't wired up all my speakers as they are new and I wanted to get this thing working before completely setting it up (new installation!). I hope that makes more sense.

I am not getting any audio via headphone socket on front either... could an incorrect speaker wiring cause this too?

So I am getting no audio from any source (Tuner, CD) and no video from HDMI either frown.gif

So then you have AMP ASSIGN set to "Zone 2/3 (M)"? Try starting from scratch and reset the microprocessor (p. 176 OM or review post #5 in the Denon AVR-XX13 Owner's thread linked in my sig) which will require resetting AMP ASSIGN again. There's no reason to disconnect the speakers as long as they are confirmed wired cleanly to each post (ie. no loose strands of wiring touching another post). If the TUNER doesn't even work, it may just be a defective unit.

I should also point out that when I first connected the speakers to zone 2 I was able to play CD via them so I asume they are working.

Also, this all stopped around the time it started "updating". I think this started cause I was trying to test AirPlay

Not sure why the headphone jack is giving you trouble, but you should hook up all 5 main speakers + subwoofer and run the Audyssey auto setup. That will at least get things working, and you can tweak from there.

I followed the reset microprocessor routine (Held INFO & BACK; pressed power button; dislay immediately flashed; waited couple of seconds; released INFO & Back buttons). Is there any acknowledgement that it is reset other than returning source to CBL/SAT and volume 0??

I get nothing different. I don't see the setup on TV and device is trying to update still. It powers on/off automatically a few times whilst doing this but then ends with connection failed 01 error each time.

How can I run Audyssey Auto Setup in this scenario?
I'd forget about running Audyssey at the moment and simply try to get the TUNER to play through to your connected main zone speakers. Perhaps try getting the update process to complete ... ie. reboot your router, unplug the AVR for a few minutes and try the update process again.

Electronic devices normally stops all the playing during firmware update. I hope you did not interrupt the update (ie, turning off or pull the plug) because it was not playing anything at that time?

I saw that it was updating and didn't touch it, but it failed.

Anyone know what a "Connection Failed 01" error means?

I've rebooted router and powered off device for several minutes but still fails.

I also have disabled upnp as advised in the official denon AVR xx13 thread.

This is really beginning to grate on me! mad.gif How can I explain spending so much to her indoors when it doesn't work!

I understand that I can also update via USB.... where can I download the update manually?

Any idea where the device is trying to connect so I can test it?

Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate it!

What about setting DHCP to OFF and manually assigning an IP address? (p. 137 OM) Otherwise do you have another router you can try? If not, disconnect the ethernet cable and just try to get the TUNER to play through to the speakers.

The problem here is that I can't do this on my AVR as I see nothing on my TV (and I've tried 2 different TVs now). I did set the router to give it a static IP bu that didn't work either.

Even with the ethernet cable disconnected it still does the Update Retry etc

Could the firmware have failed somehow? It would be nice if it actually asked before updating!!
If the AVR is trying to update even without the ethernet cable connected, I'd return the unit.

If I connect to the AVR via my web browser I see "Installer Locked!" - what does this mean?
It means you are most likely mucking around in the Maintenance Mode settings which is not advised. eek.gif Did you buy this unit new or used from an installer?

I bought it new. Do you think this is related to the update loop?

I'm looking for guide to factory reset it but the ZONE2 Source & DImmer button routine doesn't work frown.gif
post #22 of 33
AFAIK, the network reset should work very similar to the regular reset. Are you not seeing the front panel display flash when doing the network reset? Try doing a regular reset a couple of more times as well. Is there any reason you cannot simply exchange it for another unit?

When I do the network reset it just powers on and cycles through the zone 2 sources

The only reason is that he Denon UK support (3rd party company) and my dealer are both closed as it is a holiday day in the UK. So until I can contact them tomorrow and arrange this, I'm left with nothing and that is very very disappointing mad.gif

I can't understand why it would just attempt to install an update without asking me first!

Whether it should ask you first or not that's entirely a different story, but you should always do firmware update on a brand-new unit anyway. The problem here is the update failed, and you were probably too fast to mock around (ie, hardware resets, unplug the power ....), and that mostly complicated the issue. If there is display on the unit, you might want to try updating the firmware thru USB. You should slow yourself down this time :-)

Yes, this is a debate for another thread/time, but my point is that I was just wiring in the speakers before I configured and thus would have done the update. So the fact the device started updating whilst I was unaware is stupid in my eyes.

I never performed any resets or unplugged the device until after the device had reported that it was failing, so this isn't my fault as far as I can see.

Anyway, rather than get bogged down in how or why this happened, I need it fixed.

I couldn't find a UK firmware update on the Denon site, where should I look?

Thanks!

Just an FYI ... unplugging the power and or resetting the microprocessor are standard troubleshooting efforts when an update fails on the Denon AVRs. Also note that, although a planned feature update, USB firmware updating has not yet been implemented (at least not here in the USA).

smile.gif I have audio from my headphones again!

Turned on unit holding the up/down buttons and that apparently stops the upgrade from retrying ( and I think resets too).
That's is true that unplugging the power fixes many issues, but not sure it's for IN THE MIDDLE OF firmware updating. I do not have Denon. I have Onkyo, and I did have update failure. Re-do the update the second time normally solved the issue. Anyway, the receiver begins to do the update even before the cat5 is connected is ridiculous and plain bad design (if that's what it actually did).

Yeh! Yes, that was the network reset procedure on the older models, although wasn't aware it works on the 3313 as well. Now see if you can get audio to your speakers as well, ensuring you turn on the TV first, wait a few seconds, then the AVR, wait a few seconds, then the HDMI source device.

I am getting HDMI source on some devices, but on my Bluray player (bought in July, a samsung) the HDMI symbol goes out and the ANA one comes on (analogue I assume).

Can this be overridden?
